Where should I buy groceries? [poll]

So I'm new to Chicagoland, so many of the grocery stores are new to me as well.  So I don't know who has the best prices, or the best sales, or great quality/cost ratio, etc.  There's a small Jewel and big Ultra Foods very close.  There's also a Tony's.  Not sure where the closest Dominick's is.  I hit up a Super Target the other day but not a great meat selection. So ladies, where I should go? [Poll]

Re: Where should I buy groceries? [poll]

  • My vote goes to Food 4 Less. I do most of my shopping there since they have some good sales and you can get some items for great prices. Not sure about your F4L but the one near me doesn't have the best produce. I shop at a local market or CSA for produce since the prices are better and the quality is outstanding.

Jewel is expensive, so I only go when I need to. There isn't a Dominick's close enough to me for it to be worth it, but I've heard good things about their produce. I assume their prices are comparable to Jewel's. There also isn't a Super Target near me, so I can't comment. GL with your search!

  • When we use to live by a Super Target that is where we did all of our grocery shopping.  There were some things (specialty items) that they didn't have but they did have most everything.

  • I have tried Jewel and Dominicks.  I shop at Super Target for everything.  Anytime I go someplace else, I can notice the price difference.
  • I always seem to spend at least $20 less at Meijer than at Jewel. Food 4 Less doesn't have a lot of low-fat and fat-free options, I've noticed (I'm trying to buy somewhat healthy foods to lose weight) and their produce isn't great. Jewel and Dominick's are so expensive, and I am not familiar with Super Target because I don't have one near me.
  • I voted other for Tony's.  We find that their prices are comparably much better than Jewel or Dominick's, and the selection is great.  My dad has commented that the quality of the meat at his place in the burbs can vary, but ours here in the city is always awesome.  I've never been to a Meijer (at least that I can recall) but I know that a lot of peeps like them.  But I have no idea where one would be.  Ultra is good for prices, but it's difficult to shop in my opinion and they are nearly always out of their sale items.
  • I switch off each week.? I've found that there are certain things at each store that I like, so I like to switch off between Target, Dominicks, Jewel, and Trader Joe's.
