S/O Charting

Do you any of you girls use an alternative to the pill when preventing pregnancy? Right now I'm on the pill (Loestrin 24). I'm actually feeling fine with it, no odd reactions or anything, but it is so hard for me to remember to take it. Believe it or not, DH is the one that reminds me every night to take it. So lately I've been thinking of those alternatives like NuvaRing or an IUD, something that I don't have to remember to take everyday. The charting sounds really interesting, but I don't know how good I would be at it.

We want to have kids, but just not right now. At least another year or two would be really good before we start TTC.

So...

What are you currently using? Or what did you use before you decided to TTC?

Are you planning on TTC? If so, when do you think you'll be trying?

Re: S/O Charting

  • I got off the pill about 2 months ago and started charting (link in siggy). It is very easy to learn how to do and you learn so much about your body.  I recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility.  I really wanted to stop putting hormones into my body and start having regular cyles so that we can begin TTC in the near future.  The thing with charting though is that it is used to conceive and if you are trying to avoid pregnancy like I am right now, you do need to use an additional method like condoms.

Ditto on all the above. Dh and I have talked about it and were just not at that stage yet. All of our friends are in the process of getting married as well. Im thinking maybe in a year or two. DH turns 30 in August so maybe a year after that tops.

  • I tried out the NuvoRing.  I didn't have a problem with the inserting or having sex with it, but some people do.  I did have some mood swings with it, which is why I am back on BCP.  I think it is worth a 3 month or so try to see if you like it.

I am seriously considering Mirena (the new IUD), but Drs are very wary of implanting it in women who have never been pregnant.  It has to do with our cervixes being smaller and it being a more painful process. I am going to inquire about it with my Dr. during my next Pap.

I hate being hormonally controlled, but I just can't chance getting pregnant right nowSad

  • For those of you considering the IUD or the shot, please do your research before hand. A lot of time this can prevent you from getting pregnant for A WHILE after you stop taking it.

  • I'm on Loestrin too.  I have been on it for years, no funny side effects or weird feelings.

We will start trying in a little less than 2 years probably, definitely no more than 2 years. I want to have my first child as soon as possible.

I would like to chart and do NFP, but my doctors have advised me against it because of the heavy duty meds I am on for MS.  I have to get off the meds for three months before I start trying, so I will get of the pill then too. I plan to chart those three months and use condoms until we are all ready to go!

I would like to chart to know what is going on! :)

  • If you are interested in getting pregnant in another year or two, I would absolutely not recommend the Mirena/IUD.  I think it is was too invasive of a procedure for that timeline.

  • I was on birth control since I was 18 and when I turned 25 I decided that I did not want to be on them anymore.  After stopping BCP we used condoms as are alternative.  We are going to start TTC in a few months so I am charting, so that I can get familiar with my body and when I ovulate.  Big Smile
