UNM Women's soccer player Elizabeth Lambert - unsportsmanlike behavior...

University of New Mexico's Women's soccer player Elizabeth Lambert - unsportsmanlike behavior...

What does everyone think?

Re: UNM Women's soccer player Elizabeth Lambert - unsportsmanlike behavior...

  • I wonder if something didn't happen with players from the other team before the game, or on the field.  The woman whose hair was pulled, as well as the one Lambert punched (even though that chick elbowed her first), had a smirks on their faces that just scream "something's up", not to mention, look where the BYU player's left hand is!  It looks like Lambert was really pissed at her when she pulled her hair.

Obviously a bad move, but something tells me that something was said or done to provoke that kind of behavior.

  • My DH played soccer and he was in total disbelief that the refs didn't card her at ALL.  What's...funny? is that in the shot of her kicking the ball into a girl's face, her teammate was carded for tripping.  Yet that and yanking another girl to the ground by her hair is OK?

  • She should be banned from college atheltics.  It was beyond inappropriate, regardless of whether she was provoked or not.
  • She did get a yellow card and has been banned from all team activity indefinitely.

No matter what someone does or says, it doesn't justify physical reactions like that.

  • She JUST released a statement "apologizing" for her actions during the game. She honestly believes that what she did wasn't that bad and that if she were male it would have been accepted.

After her statement I think she should never be allowed to play college sports again. Better players have been suspended for less this season.

  • As a ref, I was astonished.  She should be banned and her coach disciplined as well.  I'm certain that the coach and other teammates saw what was going on.

This x 1,000.  She was all over half BYU's players, the entire game.  I was in complete disbelief when I watched the replay.

  • As a former soccer player, I was astonished as well.  That was just awful.  Any coach that I have ever played for would have pulled me quicker than anything if I did something even close to what she did during that game.  It seemed to be a poor job the ref's side of things (a yellow card? big deal.) and a poor job on the coach's part for not pulling her.  I am glad that she is has been suspended indefinitely, but something should have been done during her rage.
  • Oh and the fact that she thinks nothing of what she did..and that she thinks she could have gotten away with it if she were a male is just ridiculous.  Crazy lady!
  • I played D1 college soccer and there's a certain amount of rough play that's to be expected.  It's part of the game at that level.  With that said, I NEVER saw or experienced THAT kind of physical play.  What's even more astonishing is that she didn't come out and "apologize" in her statement she made, she merely said that this kind of press wouldn't happen if she was a male and that she regrets her actions.  Not once did she apologize.

She should be removed from the team and banned from the NCAA for good.

  • I agree with PP that the coach should be punished too. She had to have seen what was happening and continued to allow her player to act out of control.  It makes me questions the ethics of the coaching staff that turned a blind eye to that kind of behavior.

    I thought she was?
  • DH was telling me about this when it happened, I was very surprised that she did not get ejected - esp after watching the footage...

Not sure if she should be necessarily banned from the NCAA, I mean look at the Oregon player who punched the Boise State guy, hasn't he been reinstated? I definitely think she needs to be punished, as well as the coach. I remember in college we got in trouble for saying "god" when we played at a Baptist University, those refs didn't do their job, I know some roughness is expected, I mean I have played for 23 years, and guilty of doing some of that stuff, but she def took it over the line, but like pp mentioned I wouldn't doubt that there was something that prevoked her

Here is her statement that was on yahoo

  • As a former soccer player, I was totally disgusted by her actions and the fact that it was allowed by the refs and her coach.  What is more disgusting is her statement.  Sher never even said sorry.  BUT if she were a man her actions would have acceptable because they are "expected to go out there and be rough."  Give me a break!  I am just enraged by this whole situation and her lack of ability to take responsibility for herself.  "That's not me, " "I look like a monster," "There's more attention because I'm a female."  Deny, deny, deny!

    Agreed 100% .

  • I never played soccer myself, but went to all my cousin's games. I saw the boys get yellow and red carded for less! Granted it was High School, but still there is stil something called sportsman like conduct that needs to be upheld on EVERY level. The indefite suspension is not enough. Permantly banned from all sports, anger management training, and I would even go as far to say, she should never be allowed to coach! Could you imagine the little hellions she could produce being a coach?

  • oh anger management is a good idea

    An excellent idea!

  • I also think the Refs should be punished, I think pp mentioned something about  how there is no way that they couldn't have not seen any of this happen, esp with 2 line refs and a field ref...not possible
