Christmas centrepiece ideas??

I'ds really like a centrepiece for my dining table and possibly something for our sideboard. However, I'd like it to tick the following boxes:

Something that will last through the season

Something that will not create clutter for the rest of the year

Something that is "ethical" so not just some plasticky, junky thing

So far I've thought of putting some tree ornaments in a glass vase or bowl but thought that could look a bit empty and I can't think of how else to make it interesting.

I'd also thought of making orange and clove pomanders to go in a bowl.

Our tablecloth is black so colours are very open, although generally I like the traditional red, green silver and gold.

Any thoughts ideas, websites?? thanks.

Re: Christmas centrepiece ideas??

  • Do you cut down your own Christmas tree?

I usually take the bottom branches of the tree (that are getting cut off anyway to fit in the stand) and layer them down the center of the table and nestle ornaments and candles in between.

Pretty, and nothing extra to store at the end of the holiday season.

I don't suppose you have a picture from last year? I'd love to see what that looks like.

  • Yes that sound pretty.
  • I'm sorry, I don't.

But, I do have pics of something similar that I did with holly for our work holiday party last year (we can't have open flames, so the candles were LED battery operated).

  • Maybe something like these. I love the ball ornaments in the bowels or glass containers too, its simple but very pretty.

  • I have a wire bowl that has candle holders in it and I change out the things dpeending on the season. At christmas I put gold candles and then fill the bowl with Christmas bulbs that match my tree...
  • I made these for our wedding last year.  Just evergreen boughs, wet florist foam, one long narrow dish and a candle and Christmas ornaments.  Most of the pieces are easy to store and the evergreens lasted for more then a month.
