Let's do another poll, ok?

So, we're selling some stuff on CL.  One of the things we're selling is this pet water fountain thing (where the water is filtered & comes down in a free falling stream).  We're asking $25 for it, but are including 7 new filters with it.

I get an email asking if we'd take $20 and could she pick it up today when shes in the area...I wrote back and said sure, and that she could pick it up at Matt's office (I don't want anyone over here when I'm home alone with the kiddo).

This is her response:

Wonderful!  I recently adopted two smaller purebred dogs where one was used as a stud in a puppy mill and the only life he knew was a kennel but now he's in the 'lap of luxury.' The second dog I just adopted from a lady who's medical condition is deteriorating and he needed a new home.  Both dogs are so very welcome cuz I have a 6 year old son and we lost his Daddy last year unexpectedly at the age of 31.  It really helps my son heal to be able to give his huge heart to these dogs.  So thank you for helping me also with this fountain.  The dogs will LOvE it!  I am thinking it will be between 3 pm and 5pm.  That's about the best I can say for now.  I can call before I get there so if I can get an address and number that would be great!  Thanks again!

I was kind of taken aback by the lengthy & detailed response, and I'm really leaning towards meeting her in a mall parking lot or something instead.  What say you, wise WI nesties?

Oh, and we wouldn't let her come to our place anyway - we'd meet her at the clubhouse & she'd never know our actual address or anything...I'm not *that* dumb =)

[Poll]

Re: Let's do another poll, ok?

  • Update!  While I was still chewing on what to write back to her, she emailed AGAIN asking for an address/phone number so she could pick the damn thing up.

And then she reiterated how she is looking forward to using it.  It's a pet water fountain, FFS.

I'm leaning towards lampshades here, people.

  • She is overly excited and an AW for doing a good thing and wants to brag.  Also a wee bit nuts.  Meet her in public or have her go to DH's work.

    You're much nicer than I am =)

My husband has informed me that he doesn't want her coming to his work, because he's afraid she'll talk his ear off.

    Public place it is!

  • maybe she is lonely and likes to talk? Maybe she's just really into pet water fountains?
  • I  have a feeling she is going to talk your ear off and tell you her life story when you meet with her. I'd have DH call you about 5 minutes after you are set to meet her, so you have a way to leave the conversation fast!

  • I think that she may be a little nutty but I doubt she's nuts.  However that being said it is still better to error on the side of caution...especially when there are children inviolved.  I think she is just probably one of those lonely and overly chatty people who don't have the verbal filter most of us have. She may also be the type who wants people to feel sorry for her and tell her she's such a great person and a martyr for losing her husband (tragic as it may be) and adopting puppymill dogs etc.
  • I think some people feel the need to explain why they are looking for the item in hopes that if you have more people interested they would sound like it was really important for them to get it. Others tend to think that if they give you a long reason why they need the item it will make them not seem like such a crazy stranger...???

Hope she doesnt talk your ear off...

  • I sold a dog ramp to a lady on CL.  She told her her dogs story over the phone.  Probably a 15 min conversation.  I met her in the parking lot...she wanted to talk and talk (and talk some more).  She wanted to show me how she was going to use it on her van.  It was weird.  Anyways...just meet her in the parking lot.  Better safe then being a lampshade, right?  :)
