2 random work thoughts

1. I have to microwave my lunch in another office that has 3 cubicles.  Whenever I go in there, they are always working and no one even has the internet open and minimized. HOW IS THAT!? I am on the internet every other minute I think,

2.   My old coworker use to take fooooooooooooorever to do things like reply to emails, which drove me crazy.  Now that I ve taken her place, I always reply to emails as soon as I get them, or at least within the day - why not? I almost always get a response that's like "Wow!! Thanks so much for your quick response." (These are  new people I'm communicating with - so it's not like they were just used to my old coworker's slowness) Today I realized I had forgotten to send something to someone 3 days ago. When I sent it just now, I got the same shocked response. Am I abnormal to be replying to emails within the week that I get them??

Re: 2 random work thoughts

  • 1. I ALWAYS have the internet open at work. 9 hours/day, 5 days/week.

    2. I reply to emails ASAP, almost always same day if I can. I hate when they pile up.

  • 1. I had this conversation with a co-worker this morning because he told me he never went on fb during work.  Really?  Never?  I mean the system was down for nearly an hour this morning - what did you do?

    2. We are expected to respond in 24 hours even if it is to say you are researching and need an extra day.

  • 1. My email is up constantly, otherwise I'd be online checking it every 10 minutes. I'm ocd like that.  Lately I've had this page open, too, but not all day.

    2. I always reply to emails asap, either immediately or as soon as I accomplish what it asked of me. Otherwise, I'd never respond.

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Can you ask those freaks for tips on how to stay focused all day long? I often drift into procrastination and then suddenly go, "wait. what was I working on?"

  • 1.  for 1 day my internet was broken, I seriously contemplated calling sick the next day if it wasnt fixed because I about went out of my mind that day.  I dont know how anyone could go a whole day without getting distracted/procrastinating on the internet.

    2.  I always try to respond asap or I forget and it gets buried.  I frequently get surprised responses on how fast I respond.  But I get annoyed when it takes someone 3 days to answer so I try to be quick.  I also think I'm being rude as people who know me, know that I'm at my desk 90% of my day and have a phone that I can always get my email on so I try to be quick.  My boss however, calls me if I dont respond in 5 minutes, fearing I didnt get the message.  He seems to think I need to acknowledge every email even if there is no question.  Dumb.
