Carpet install with Home Depot/Lowe's
Have you had them install carpet, or know of anyone who has? They have a great special going on now. DH and I spent the day running around to everyone in the area, and they do beat the small, private owned shops by $800- $1000, which might be enough for us to go with Lowe's. We were worried about having Lowe's/Home Depot doing the install, for fear they do not do it all the time, and may not do the nest job. So, we thought it might be worth spending the extra money to have the "professionals" (the smaller, specialty shops) do it, but Lowe's contracts out companies in the area, so it is not their guys doing it.
We live in the Burlington area, so if you know of anyone good around here, I would love the hear about them!

We just had carpet installed in the nursery about 4 weeks ago. We decided to go with Home Depot because the choices of carpet they had in the Berber style were cheaper than Lowes and we really didn't want to spend much. I think it was less than $400 for the carpet and installation in this fairly good size room. They were very fast and cleaned up after themselves. The carpet has been great so far. You are right that they contract out. That is pretty much how it goes for HD and Lowe's. I have to admit that I am not great about buying local when it is cheaper to go with the big guys. Price drives my decision most of the time, unfortunately for the local shops. We will be getting more carpet for the basement soon, so hopefully the good installation deals are still going on through the summer. Good Luck!
