Help with weekend in Indianapolis.

I am from Cincinnati and DH and I are looking to spend a weekend in Indianapolis late summer or early fall.

We would love suggestions of neat places to stay and/or things to do.

Thanks so much!

Re: Help with weekend in Indianapolis.

  • Well, if you're only wanting to come to Indy- then this is out- but wanted to throw it in anyway- French Lick Resort and Casino- and splurge and stay at West Baden Springs.

     If you're wanting Indy only- there are lots of B&B around the city- the Greek Festival is the first weekend of September, the zoo is always good, the Children's Museum is world-class. Shopping at circle center mall, check out City Market, rent a paddle boat on the canal and have a picnic by the river.

    There is really tons to do- depends on what you want to spend and how much you want to see/do- you could catch a play, or an orchestra performance, never know who might be in town for a concert then either.

     Good luck on a fun trip!

  • I agree--there are tons of fun things to do in Indy! All of the above is fun--another option that may seem cheezy is the Indianapolis 500 Museum. It is on the west side of town, but very interesting--even for those without a ton of interest in racing. I agree that hanging around the canal's in downtown Indy is a lot of fun--the zoo and botanical garden's are also great even if you don't have kids. I have heard that the new dolphin exhibit is amazing.

    there is also the Indianapolis Museum of Art which is about a 15 min. drive to the north from downtown. They just finished a major renovation and it is supposed to be really cool.

    Plenty of great eating to be done also--depending on what you like St. Elmo's steakhouse is a legend, and pricey, but amazing. I hope you have a great weekend--DH and I love to visit Cincinnati and hope you have a great time in Indy!

  • I'm sure you will get tons of suggestions so I'll just add my personal favorites;

    - The Indianapolis Art Museum is amazing and huge with tons of cool stuff. Now through September you can see the original scrolls that Jack Kerowack wrote "On the Road".

    - You must visit monument circle and bum around downtown and on Mass. Avenue. Lots of shopping and neat stuff to see.

    - The zoo is okay.. nothing special IMO

    - Go to dinner at St. Elmo's its truly THE Indianapolis resturaunt! Get the shrimp coctail.
