Pumpkin overload???

So I was planning to make pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes as a dessert option for Thanksgiving.  We were also planning on serving an apple and pecan pie.  So MIL asks what she can do to help and I give her the apple and pecan pie suggestions, and tell her she can really do any kind of pie she wants, but I am doing pumpkin cupcakes.  So she calls me last night and says she is going to make her mother's pumpkin pie recipe.  I didn't want to say no and be rude, because she is heloing me out by bringing most of the desserts, but seriously???  So now my question is, should I rething my cupcake idea?  It seems like it could be a lot of pumpkin to have 2 of the 3 desserts be pumpkin based.

Re: Pumpkin overload???

  • Ha...my DH would LOVE to be at that dessert buffet.

How many people are going to be there?
If its under 6 people it just sounds like a lot period.

I think everyone kind of expects and looks forward to pumpkin pie.
Pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes, if its the recipe that I have done are incredible and just different enough to not remind you of pumpkin pie.

    I think its ok!

  • Good question... I am having 12 people for dinner and another 4 for dessert... so 16 total.

  • If you like Pumpkin like I do... can never be too much.  Have fun!
  • There aren't many times a year when you can do this much pumpkin... go for it!  You can have apple pie anytime.
  • Tis the season for pumpkin & lots of it! : )
  • I don't see it as a problem. It's different forms of pumpkin desserts. They both sound good!

  • If the two pumpkins are your only dessert choices, I would make something different.  I don't really like pumpkin pie Indifferent other pumpkin foods are great, but not pie.  And I don't eat cheesecake, any flavor.

Apple or pecan pie are my two favorites.

  • Ditto to the more pumpkin the better AND adding something else.  You will have 16 ppl for dessert...get 8 pieces (?) from each pie (assuming you have the pumpkin from MIL and then an apple or pecan)-so there is a piece of pie for everyone.  If you do the cupcakes, too-that gives a different option of the *often* beloved pumpkin AND a little sweet snack an hour or so after tummy have made a little more room for one more bite.  : )

If you have any of those cupcakes leftover...I'll take one! ha!
