Parents survey

My parents are the hardest people in the world to shop for, and I have no idea what to get them for Christmas. What are you buying your parents for the holidays?

Re: Parents survey

  • I feel like I have a pretty good handle on my parents, but my in-laws are another story.  They're both pretty casual farm people, and don't participate in hobbies with a lot of accessories (how I dream that they were scrapbookers or crossword puzzle lovers!).  I think I'm getting MIL some big cozy, plush slippers, but I did consider a simple, pretty necklace with a semi-precious stone.  FIL is a little harder.  Maybe a baseball cap for a local team to replace the last one that was ruined.  He loves chocolate covered cherries, too.

Vases, photo albums, and stationery all make good anyone-any time gifts.  Restaurant gift certificates are good, too.  This is what we got them as a gift when we got married; I just called up their favorite restaurant, gave them my CC number over the phone and they mailed me a gift certificate.

  • We got my parents a Digital Fram, they love pictures and have three kids who dont live at home anymore, so we filled it up with pictures of us! My IL's are getting a french press and a beer of the month club!

  • This is the first year my parents and DH and I are just doing stockings, no wrapped gifts. Mostly small stuff, books, golf stuff, Itunes gift cards, maybe bath stuff for my mom. Chocolates. If we were exchanging though, I'd love to get them both a kindle and a gift card for Amazon, they love to read.
  • Last year we got each set of parents a gift certificate. Mine got one to a restaurant and the IL's got one to a picture framing place. My parents still haven't used their gc and the IL's lost their's. Soooo, this year I am splitting my parents gifts, my mom will get her own gift and my dad will get his own. I have no clue what we are getting the IL's because I am concerned about getting them another gc, just to have them loose that one!!
