Best place for pies?

I was told to bring a pie to Thanksgiving, and normally I'd bake it, but all of my cooking/baking stuff is in storage! So...I need to buy. Suggestions for the best bakery/pie shop?

Thanks ladies!

Re: Best place for pies?

  • sharis pies are amazing! :) at least my family thinks so. My Mom would always buy some for family things and say she slaved all day making them haha.

I am not familiar with bakeries in the Portland metro area. There is an amazing place bout 20 minutes from my house in Westport (on highway 30 towards the coast) its called the Berry Patch. they make ALL their pies from scratch. Marin-berry Cream Pie, they also make their own jams and jellies!

But I am sure you dont want to drive over an hour just to give a pie.

  • Every summer I go to shari's for the strawberry pie.  The rest of their pies are good year round (but that ones my fav!)

Costco also does good pies, and they are huge!

both are very cost-worthy and delish!

  • I second Costco, and they usually have a coupon out this time of year for a pie.  Those pies will feed a herd of people.
  • I've heard there is a place in Portland called Whiffies Pies that I've heard make the best pies, ever.. I've not been there yet but a lot of people at work love it.

  • I'm certainly going to have to try Whiffies, I've never even heard of them. Yumm!!!

Costco does make awesome pies, their pumpkin is about the closest to homemead I've found in a storebought pie and the apple and pecan are really tasty as well. My fave however was from a Zupans grocery store one year, I want to say it came from Joseph's Bakery. Not sure if they're even still in business. I'd head into a Zupans and just ask which is the best that they carrry, you absolutely can't go wrong with Zupans Bakery they always seem to carry the best! I am in love with the butterflake roll's that they carry too.

  • Thanks ladies! I checked out what Costco has today, and they have pumpkin (which someone else is already bringing) and apple, which I confess I'm not a huge fan of!
Off to try a few other suggestions!

  • I'm sorry, but I think Shari's pies are kind of gross. I wouldn't go there. If you want to buy a chain restaurant pie, at least go with Marie Callenders. The best pie ever is from the Truffle Hunter, a restaurant in downtown Gresham. They're spendy, but worth it. I am currently enjoying "Tollhouse Cookie Pie" from there right now.

Also, Costco has decent pie. QFC has a pretty good bakery. I've never had pie from there, but I imagine it's pretty good.
