Red light flashing on Xbox360
My DH's XBox 360 will not turn on and the the power button keeps flashing a red light. We checked on-line and it said that it was because the machine was overheating so we turned it off and placed a fan next to it. The machine still will not turn on and the light continues to flash. Any suggestions? We use it for our DVD player, not to mention DH has $100s of dollars in games, etc. Thanks

Re: Red light flashing on Xbox360
I think I have been told that is the "circle of death" and the only way to fix it (that I know of) is get a new machine
Sorry I can't give you any better news
sounds like the "red ring of death"
You are going to have to contact the company and they will most likely ask you to send it to them and they either fix it or send a replacement. I'm not sure which.
Which red lights are flashing? There are four lights in total, and which lights are red is what tells you what the problem actually is.
Ditto this! My DH got the red ring of death, one light flashing, and his ended up being covered by a recall. If you can get a screen to display, there should be an error code, and Microsoft has a website that will allow you to find your error code and figure out how to handle it from there. If you can't find the link, let me know and my DH will look it up in his email.
Is it still under warranty? We got lucky and got the red ring of death the week before our warranty expired.
Call the Xbox tech support and explain what's happening (when you're there with the console) and they'll let you know what to do.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
It is likely the infamous Red Ring of Death (RRoD). It is VERY common and we don't personally know anyone with an XBox that hasn't had it. Ours was actually the last hold out!
It is such a big problem that Microsoft has a special warranty for it. You have 3 yrs from purchase date. You can go on the XBox website and fill out a form to get the process started. You'll need the serial number off the back of the unit to determine it's age. In our case, the web interface said it was not eligible, but in fact we still had a few more months left. DH called MS and they accepted it for return with no problem and I didn't even have to send a copy of the receipt. They will send you mailing labels via email or snail mail. You'll need to get your own box. They do cover the shipping though. The whole process doesn't take long at all - ours was a week or two at most. Someone does need to be home to sign for it when it is returned.
Note that the machine you get back will not be the same one you sent in. It will have the same serial #, but it's another refurb. The one we got wouldn't recognize a controller for more than a few seconds at a time. It was sent back and replaced as well with no problem.
