XP: boy and girl baby shower ideas?

I was asked to throw a last minute shower for two friends having their 2nd babies and 25 of their guests.  One is having a boy, one is having a girl.  Any decor inspiration?   Menu will be appetizers and desserts.  So far this is the menu:Kathy's Rum Cake, mini-cheesecake brownie bites, chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles, fruit plate with fruit dip...Crack dip, chips and onion dip (one mom-to-be's fave), brie with apples and crackers, cheese ball, veggie tray...Any thoughts or suggestions?  I'm a bit stressed about adding this to my holiday calendar!

Re: XP: boy and girl baby shower ideas?

  • Soup shooters would work.  I'm hosting a baby shower 2 days after Thanksgiving and I'm doing a carrot, ginger and honey soup shooter and serving in espresso cups.

As far as decor, I wouldn't worry too much about the boy/girl bit.  Depending on when the shower is, you could just make holiday decorations do double duty.

  • I think you're all set on desserts.  Maybe add one more appetizer?  How about something frozen you can pop into the oven like mini quiches or pigs in a blanket?  Or maybe a tray of antipasto?

As far as decor goes, neutrals might be your best bet... whites, creams.  Maybe buy a nice ribbon that you could use on different things: hang a bow on front door, tie around a vase that you already own, maybe on a basket that you already own that will hold napkins (just to unify things a little w/o having to go out and buy pink and blue things.)

Good luck!  I'm sure you're friends will be thankful.

  • I just threw a gender neutral shower for my sister in-law with a jungle theme.  check it out http://lesliesarna.com/?s=baby+shower

    Good luck!
