? about DIY Martha Pom Poms
I definitely want to make some for 3 upcoming showers I'm hosting. They'd go perfectly and get 3x's the use!
These are the instructions I find online:
http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/article/pom-poms-and-luminarias
- I found 20in x 20 in tissue paper. Do you think that's going to turn out badly??
I used to make these as a kid for Fiestas but not in the full round look, more to look like a flower so any tips to replicate Martha's look would be appreciated.
Re: ? about DIY Martha Pom Poms
I used the same instructions. I tried making the big ones and for some reason they just didn't come out good. So what I did was, I used 8 sheets of tissue, did the accordion folding and before wrapping with wire, I would cut the whole strip in half, and then add the wire on each half. At this point follow the rest of the instructions. They are smaller this way but they look good still. I just find they come out tighter and much easier to work with. Here is a party I did for my brother...I think there are 2 pics of the poms that I did in here. http://tinyurl.com/yclvaq7
Good luck and I hope this helps.
I also used that size and they were a little floppy - but ok - it ended up raining and we had to move my daughter's b=party inside so I wasn't able to use them like I had hoped (hanging from the ceiling) so I smooshed them and made tied green tulle to create a leaf/stem and called it a day! I am not sure how you would transport them to 3 events - but I took them in 2 big tubs and they still got smooshed. GL!! I am about to post pics of the princess party so you can kinda see the size etc.
If you are able to find the Martha Stewart kits for these (I believe they sell at most Wal-Marts), it's probably a little pricier than buying the supplies yourself, but worth it. I think it's $10/kit to make 3, and it's really easy to do. Has all the materials and instructions in the package. I've seen these turn out really well - haven't made the pom pom balls, but I've made the kit with the tissue paper flower bouquet, and while it was more time-consuming, it was definitely worth it for $10... the shower guest still keeps them in a vase on her table a year after the party. :-)
I think that size tissue paper will work fine. We usually use 20 sheets of paper instead of 10 to make them look fuller. You need a good pair of scissors, because the cutting can get a little difficult with that many sheets. Also be sure to give yourself plenty of time to complete them. The pom poms aren't hard to make, but they can be time consuming. Lastly, don't use cheap tissue paper (99 cent store) because it rips easily. Here are some pictures of the ones we've made recently:
