Re: Cookies

  • those are sooo cute! you did an awesome job!

Does the royal icing taste good? I usually end up putting a buttercream type frosting on cookies when i make them bc i know everyone will like the taste, but you can't make buttercream look as pretty as royal icing (and you cant really stack the cookies b/c buttercream doesn't really harden)

  • Royal icing isn't the best tasting thing in the world but its definitely not bad tasting - its just super sweet.  DH and my dad both had a few cookies and thought they were great.  Its basically powdered sugar and water (the meringue powder doesnt really have much of a taste) so its kind of a like a glaze.

Its kind of a trade off for pretty cookies and stackability vs. the extra flavor you can get from buttercream.  If you usually use a standard buttercream recipe, there isnt much difference in taste, just texture.  If you use more complex flavored buttercreams, you'll likely miss the buttercream.

  • Gorgeous!  We've been royal-icing it around my house for years but your cookies are way cuter.
