iPod docking/sound systems?

I am looking into a portable sound system for the iPod or iPhone (stream pandora, or something). We have a teeny back patio ( live in center city) and we want to have music out there (it isn't in our budget to put speakers out there).

Do you have any suggestions on such a device ?

Re: iPod docking/sound systems?

  • We LOVE our Bose Portable SoundDock.  The quality is amazing.  It's a bit expensive, but you really can't find anything better.  When we use it for parties, it's lasted outside for about six hours.  It also doesn't drain your ipod - it actually charges it even while the system is unplugged.  The recharge time is really fast, too.  The sound is great and you'd never guess all of that sound was coming out of something so small.  We've used it for indoor/outdoor parties, tailgating, etc.
  • crap. i knew someone was going to recommend Bose.  I don't think that it is in our budget this yr.

  • I've had a JVC one for a few years, and it does the job pretty well.  It's not portable though, which is less than ideal.

I'll be pushing for a Bose when it fits in the budget....

  • We have a larger JVC system, and it also will take USB and memory cards, rather than just ipod. I like it for indoor or small otudoor, but once you turn up the volume, it gets really staticy. Bose will always be the best.

  • I just asked my friend. She has a polk audio docking station. It's super itty bitty, runs on batteries, but is absolutely phenomenal. Not sure the price, but good luck!

  • ok. will look into Polk.

meanwhile, I am finding some older model  Bose sounddocks that  are cheaper than the new model  - 10 - which is looking at  $350 and on up.

  • I have an ihome one at the office and I love it!  It holds my ipod or iphone which is nice.  It charges my iphone while docked as well.

Very easy to use and good sound for the office.

  • I got this one for my brother last year and he really likes it...  it's definitely budget-friendly, too.
