Any reviews of this hospital...

Hi everyone!  I don't post regularly but when I do you all are very helpful.  Long story short my dad has been in the critical care unit for the last six weeks at a hospital in Sedalia, Missouri.  We are from De Soto, Kansas so this has been even more of a hardship on our family since we have been driving back and forth either every day or every other day, plus trying to work.  The reason he is in the hospital is a ruptured esophagus, which happened after a violent vomiting episode.

He is improving and just recently was taken off the ventilator and can breathe on his own finally.  So now we are starting to think ahead to physical therapy.  One of the facilities we are looking at is the Select Specialty Hospital, which is located inside Overland Park Regional Medical Center.  If anyone has any experiences with this hospital or Kindred Hospital, which is in KCMO, please let me know.  We are going to go tour each place but we are leaning towards Select Specialty due to its location, but obviously we want the best for my dad.  TIA!

Re: Any reviews of this hospital...

  • Oh wow.  I am sorry, I don't have any information on either, but I just wanted to say I will be thinking of you and your family.  My dad spent over 3 months in the hospital (in Denver) rehabbing a wound a couple years back, and it was very difficult to find a good one.  The hospital he ended up at was also called Kindred Hospital, but I don't know if there would be an affiliation.  It was a long-term care facility, and he had to be sent to other hospitals for additional surgeries, etc.  It would probably get a B- or so grade.  Best of luck to you and your family.
  • Thanks Fishie.  I'm sure that Kindred has different locations in the US so it is probably affiliated.  I think we are leaning towards Select Specialty at OP Regional.  I'll be really happy when he is only 15 minutes from home and not two hours.  I can't imagine him being in Denver!  That must have been very difficult.
  • My father has a great experience doing physical therapy through OP Regional.
