Turkey trot

I saw Gipper's Girl's ticker and it got me thinking who else is running the Turkey Trot on Thursday?  I am running the Dallas one for the first time this year.  I signed up for the 8mi but am now nursing a foot injury so I'm just gonna do the 5k.  Who else is gonna be there?

Re: Turkey trot

  • I'll be there huffing and puffing!  DH and I have been training with the Couch to 5k program.  We finished Week 6 this morning, so we won't be all the way though in time for the TT but I feel good with my progress and I'm going to try my hardest to run the entire race.  I'm sure I'll be pathetically slow, but that's ok :)  I want to do another 5k in December once we finish C25K.

    Good luck, girls!

  • Forgot to ask, have you all done this race before?  I'm wondering how early we should leave the house and how difficult it is to find parking.  Any tips for a newbie?
  • C25k is how I started too.  I finished it a couple of years ago and decided to keep on going so I joined a running club http://www.dallassportsuniversity.com/ and even did a 20k in September.  I signed up for the White Rock 1/2 marathon in December but I think I am gonna have to scratch that now too.  I have a dislocated bone in my right foot now so I am trying to get that back to 100%.  I was a complete non runner before so if I can do it, anyone can!!!! Good luck and keep it up!!!!

  • The last time I did it, it was a few years ago and I got mixed up on the start time.  We got there with plenty of time for an 8 am start time... but it didn't start til 9!  oops.  Since we were so early, it was a breeze getting there and parking.  We parked underground (under city hall?) but then it was a PITA to get out of the garage to leave.  Now sure what I'll do this year.

    Good luck, girls!

  • Momo - That is impressive!  Maybe there is hope for me yet, lol.  I have never particularly enjoyed running, but seeing how much I've progressed in 6 weeks is keeping me going (and that I don't want to embarrass myself too badly at the TT!).  Honestly, the hardest part is forcing myself to get out of my warm, cozy bed at 5:30 a.m., but I'm always in a great mood after I finish the run Big Smile  I hope your foot gets better.  That must be so frustrating for you Sad

Maui - Do you remember if the course has many hills?

  • Me, I'm doing the 5K.  I have not done it before and I'm also wondering how early to get there.  My parents live near downtown so I am going to their house first and we're going together.  We are kind of thinking about taking the DART rail so we won't have to deal with parking, but DART usually can't handle huge crowds (like TX-OU weekend).
  • I don't think so, but it's been awhile.

I just found this map of the course.  Over on the right, where it says "info & tools" click the box "show elevation":

The Dart schedule says to get off at the Convention Center stop.  It can't be as crowded as TX-ou so we may try it.

    Schweet.  Thanks!

  • We'll be doing the Fort Worth Turkey Trot. I'm doing the 5k and DH is doing the 10k. We've done it for the past 4 years and have a blast!
  • I will be there on Thursday as well.  But, I'm kinda sad to be going at it alone on Thanksgiving Day.  My kids will be there to cheer me on so I guess that's all that matters.

     Good Luck Everyone!!

  • I didn't good news from the podiatrist yesterday on my foot and had to actually get a steroid injection.  It is still inflammed so guess what?  No running for 2 weeks!  Good luck everyone, I wish I could be there!
