Need Help

Hey ladies! I need your help with gift ideas for my SIL. We aren't close at all and every gift we get her for Christmas, she doesn't really like so I am trying my hardest to come up with something. She isn't into the tried and true girly gifts (bath stuff, a purse, pjs, movies, ect.) so its hard. All she really does is work (at a law firm), drink, and she loves her dogs....H wanted to get her a bottle of liquor but that seemed so impersonal to me (that what we give as our white elephant office gift every year). Any suggestions???

Re: Need Help

  • How much are you wanting to spend? You could do a membership to a wine club, where I think she would get a new wine every month. I think you can choose how many months you want to send it for. Does she like massages? They have massage envy's all around now and they are $39 for a 1 hour massage. To be honest though if she doesnt like your gift then oh well. It's the thouht that counts even though some people don't think like that.

  • Does she drink coffee? Since she works so much, maybe a gift card to her fav coffee shop and a nice travel mug (stainless steel on the inside so the hot coffee doesn't hend up tasting like plastic). What about a really nice briefcase/attache with her initails? Try to think of something that would make the way she lives her life easer. (Massages & bath stuff require time, that it doesn't sound like she has). Or if she has a favorite bar you can get a gift card there, great esp if they serve food. I used to think gift cards were impersonal, but I have come to realize that used properly they really can be very thoughtful gifts.
  • I agree with suggestions from pps.  Also consider you and your DH taking her out to dinner at her favorite (or a fancy) restaurant?

  • Does she use a briefcase?  Maybe she needs a new one?
  • Something for her dog?  An outfit, sweater, collar, fancy biscuits???
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • Agree with PP's...also they have really nice pens you can get her name engraved on.  I got a set of really nice pens (green and black, kind of like granite looking) with my name engraved for my college graduation years ago.  I still use them....  or a nice desk lamp or name plate for her desk at work?
  • Does she collect anything at all.  Think about her house.   For my sil we got her a bottle of her favorite wine and a little snowman figurine.  She collects snowmen (they are up all year long lol).  For a aunt that is the same as you I know very little to nothing about her.  I bought her a movie night thing.  We went to bed bath and beyond and bought a couple little plastic tubs that said popcorn on them.  Then we stuffed it with candy and popcorn and a really soft large couch blanket and a gift card to blockbuster.  She loved it!  It was something the whole family could use.  The gift tag was a little ornament photo frame with our picture in it with a date.  She liked that too.

     Be creative :)
