Anyone shopping black friday?
I figured I would ask now since the board will probably be dead closer to Thursday.
I think I might hit the mall to look for boots. Maybe look around to see what kind of deals there are, but I can't think of anything else right now.
Re: Anyone shopping black friday?
Oh, dear. I used to work for Staples. Luckily I weaseled out of that one.
I've gone a few times in the early morning and it's been crazy, but when I went last year and the year before, I went around mid-morning. Much more manageable, especially at the mall (versus Kohls or Target or Best Buy).
Luckily when I worked in retail I got the hell out before Christmas. She's a CSL (Front end manager) so good luck to her, I'm sure it's better for her o Black Friday than working in electronics, she just got moved to her current position a month ago.
Nope M doesn't go to malls unless it's absolutely necessary, he despises(sp?) them.
Yup- DH and I are going to give it a go. We aren't camping out or anything crazy like that, but we will do our best to come up with a "game plan" and knock out most of our x-mas shopping (and get some toys for ourselves in the process). I will let you know how we do on Friday afternoon
Yeah, we'll hit up Target, Best Buy, and maybe Walmart. We camped outside of Best Buy in 2006 and I swore I'd never do it again, even though we got a great deal on a tv.
And we will prob be w the crowds... we need a tv and DH's goal is to get a 32" under $300-I see Walmart and Target have those for Friday at $250. hm. (Ours has that lovely 'color' ring around the edges)
Used to go with Mom-around 9ish when it wasn't as 'crazy'... she would get her stuff rung up at the jewelry counter at Target and then she'd have 4 people waiting on her at Radio Shack! I swear I will never forget that. She said to me-Well, they did ask if I needed any help! Yes, but FOUR people?!?
Check into what will be available online starting at midnight. The time we spent the night outside of Best Buy, we later realized that we could have ordered online with in-store pickup rather than standing outside all night.
Also, there was a story on the news recently about how most stores are only getting 3-5 of the good deal items and screwing over customers. Check the ads, because if it says "in store quantity limited" you probably aren't going to get it unless you're first in line.
Saw I can 'order' it online at Walmart. We might just ahve to do that... THANKS!
We prob would be first in line, though. DH won't miss out on a deal...
I see nothing wrong with this comment. I don't usually shop in NYC PERIOD because of this. Too many people!
NO! Unless my mom drags me out!
Last year hubby and I went to Sears on black friday though to buy our washer/dryer which was on HUGE discount (I'm talking $750 for the pair, HE AND STACKABLE!). The mall was INSANE and we had just got back from our honeymoon so we were both in this mellow slow island mood and everyone else was running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The deals are good so if there is something you need it is totally worth it other than that I would rather keep my sanity!
This, I feel the same way. I'd rather pay a little more for something then deal with the stress of crowds, people, and parking.
No way. No how. You couldn't pay ME to go shop on Black Friday. I worked in retail for far too long. In places like Pier One, Bath & Body Works, Macys and other department stores. Those places are a mad house and I refuse to go anywhere near the mall. Matter of fact, I havent been to the mall in over a year. I hate it and don't go. There is a target and best buy down the street from my neighborhood but I wont be going there either.
It is my experience that many of the things that seem like great bargains are either junk, or arent enough of a "bargain" to go that early and deal with the mean people.
I'll shop online if I need anything.
I do now that i live near philly! It just wasn't convenient living out in the country before. I only go out super early if there's an "early bird" deal i want, otherwise i wait until like 7. I'm up anyway, DH has to be at work at 4!! Surprisingly, the crowds at the stores i hit are always considerate (but maybe it's just because the crazies are gone by the time i get there).
go to blackfriday.info.com - best place to find ads early! i figure out which stores i want to hit and exactly what i want ahead of time. mostly, the things i shop for are just things DH & I need, not necessarily gifts. Kohls is usually last because i like to go through the clothes and try stuff on.
