Impatiently waiting to hear about Maryland

Apparently, the Maryland Attorney General has had a request on his desk since May to issue a legal opinion on whether Maryland should recognize same-sex marriage performed in other states. The Blade, before it folded, seemed to think that an opinion could be expected to be issued soon, and that there was a decent chance it would be favorable. However, none of the other news organizations seems to be following this issue. Has anyone heard any updates?

Re: Impatiently waiting to hear about Maryland

  • No, I haven't heard anything other than it was pending.

Given that DC is likely to rule in favor od SS marriage, there will be a flood of marriages in this area! Big Smile

Hm....I wonder if I can get L to have another wedding. LOL.

  • I think that it's still a waiting game.  The most recent news articles say a decision should be issued 'soon.'  Soon to us and soon to government officials could be two very different however.

  • I really hope they make a decision soon. We got married here in Maryland so we would still need to travel to get the certificate in order for it to be recognized here. We just did not see a point in doing all of that for a pice of paper if it is not going to be recognized by the state anyway.

  • I guess my attitude was that I did not intend to have more than one more wedding.  (I already had one when I was 23, which ended in divorce.)  Thus, we went to Massachusetts, figuring that marriage would be recognized by Maryland and the feds if and when they will recognize any same-sex marriage.  But I do recognize that it's a tough call, when our home state will not recognize us as married.  I'm just really hoping that the Attorney General gets his act together soon, and Maryland begins noticing that we are married.
  • I hope they do pass this... as we are MD residents Big Smile
