Re: PSA: Crib recall. (not sure if any of you saw this)

  • Yeah, and now I am all confused.  I saw someone on the Today show today that said not to use ANY drop side crib and if you can afford a new one, just get one.  My SIL is giving us hers, she said that it isn't a drop side, but the side does drop by pushing on it with your knee.  So, do you think that is still considered a drop side???
  • I don't know.  I mean, aren't almost ALL cribs drop side?
  • I have no idea.  I really haven't researched cribs since I wasnt purchasing one.
  • That sounds like a drop side crib to me - but I could be wrong.  Ours isn't considered a drop side crib.   To change the height of the side, we have to break out a tool set and unscrew stuff.  Ours is also a 3-1 convertible bed.  But its my understanding that if you can manipulate the height to get the baby in and out easily it is a drop side.

  • It is, I just talked to her, and it is definately a drop side.  This is the thing though, she got ALL offended that I "questioned the safety" of the crib she put her children in.  I don't think that I am being out of line questioning this.  I mean, when you have the CPSC saying that they are considering a ban on all drop side cribs, it is something to consider.

So if she had a child small enough to put in it and saw that article she would still use that crib?

Ha, my question exactly!  Apparently she would.

ugh!  People like that drive me mad.  I mean I understand that nothing happened to her baby, obviously, but why would you even want to take the chance once you have been warned?  And why would she even want YOU to take the chance? It's not like you are questioning it for no reason.
  • My sisters and I all had a drop side crib.  Clearly, we are here to tell the tale.  I remember a lot of finger injuries from us messing with the drop side, but no suffocation.

The one we bought is not a drop side.  It is a convertible crib-daybed-full bed.  The mattress height is adjustable (if we bust out the tools).

And we use the bumper.  I've heard that's dangerous, too.  We'll see how that goes.  So far, she doesn't roll around in her sleep.
