Tuesday Poll: Fill in the Blank
Hi Girls. It's too quiet. I KNOW, it being a short week, that no one is actually working. So let's chat it up.
Fill in the blank:
"The worst holiday I ever had was __________________________"
OR
"The worst thing to happen on a holiday was _________________"
Re: Tuesday Poll: Fill in the Blank
The worst holiday I ever had was probably last thanksgiving. My dad had just fallen off a roof a couple weeks before, and he was in a neckbrace and a sling... and hopped up on painkillers. He couldn't sit at the table, so we had to bring him his dinner in the hospital bed we had delivered. The painkillers made him so sleepy, he slept during most of the family time. While I was SOOO grateful that he was ok, just seeing him like that is a really sad memory.
Sorry to be a downer.
I don't mean to be a downer, but... the worst holiday I ever had was Christmas 2004.
I was a Junior in college and I had just started a new job. I had worked only 2 days before I had to go home for Christmas for about a week - I lived on campus and they basically make you leave! Christmas Eve night was the last time I saw my grandpa. He had Cancer all that year and had the chemo and everything and was in remission. Things were looking up, but it killed his immune system and in the winter, he had gotten pneumonia. He died on the 28th from complications caused by the pneumonia. I stayed home for another week or so - everything was delayed for the funeral and whatnot due to Christmas/New Years. Trying to explain this one to my brand new boss was difficult, but they were understanding.
Unfortunately, I think about it every Christmas.
Not as bad as pp's but...the worst christmas i had was when I asked for a puppy from my dad. It was actually a french bulldog (i have 2 now) but at the time I was DYING for one of these dogs, even though they were expensive. I wanted one for like 2 yrs and i begged my dad for one.
So on christmas day i open my gift and its a dog bowl...a dog leash... and im like OMG!!!! and he goes "thats for when you get a puppy someday" WHAT A PUNK!!! lol
My Blog!
The worst holiday I can remember was last Christmas. I think it was Christmas Eve - for some reason or another, my parents and I got into a fight over a speeding ticket I got that resulted in me losing my license (only because I'd gotten a ticket previously and the attorney I hired didn't pay the court fees and so it showed up as a negligent case or something).
My parents wanted me to do something that I wasn't comfortable with (I guess I should add that I'd dated the attorney before and no longer wanted to be involved with him). DH (then FI) stood up for me and as a result was attacked. It was soooo awkward that after Christmas festivities were done, we went back to our house instead of spending the night. It was the worst!
My worst Christmas ever was when my younger brother was in Afghanistan in the Army (2005 or 2006). Our immediate family is very close, and it sucked because none of us had ever been away on Christmas. Adding to the misery was knowing we wouldn't hear from him at all that day because he was away on a mission, cold and stuck sleeping outdoors somewhere while we had this huge meal no one wanted to eat because he wasn't there. We honestly discussed not even having Christmas until he returned home a few months later.
His girlfriend (now FI) and I had each sent him some booze (HUGE no-no) and he later told us that was all that had made Christmas bearable for him and his guys as they sat in the nasty cold weather being homesick and passing our contraband gifts around. I had also sent him a huge box of chocolate from his favorite candy shop in the French Quarter, plenty to share with the rest of his group, and found out he never even received it, so I was glad he at least got the booze.
Next Christmas will suck in the exact same way as our youngest brother will be leaving for Iraq after the New Year. Not looking forward to that one at all.
The worst was when I found out there was no Easter Bunny. Mom shuffled my sister and I off to bed early, but I couldn't sleep cause well...the Easter Bunny was coming! I peeked out the window and saw lights on in my neighbors living room, I just knew he was over there! I ran to my sisters room to tell her and she was just as excited as I was (she was a good actress). After coming out of her room I noticed that the lights were on in our living room! I walked out to the kitchen, peeked around the corner into the living room and BAM! There was my mom sitting on the floor stuffing Easter eggs. Oh the horror! I was totally bummed and kinda felt duped.
The worst holiday I ever had was last Christmas when DH's family decided to spend the entire day gossiping in my near hearing about how unfair and rude it was that DH and I decided to have a private ceremony and that it must have been a decision to exclude them and them alone. I was miserable and it was so akward to sit there knowing that they were badmouthing us pretty much in front of our faces. DH was oblivious to it all (men!) but was livid when he found out what was going on from me and from his mom. Their family gets together for new years and celebrates the family winter b-days and half his family "forgot" mine - the same half that conveniently were trash talking. hmmm....
The worst thing to happen on a holiday was actually the day after - my Dad had a massive stroke at age 43 while returning a christmas gift at the mall. My parents were trying to reach me but I was in a movie with my cell phone off and to this day I feel guilty about it. He spent weeks recovering - thankfully is nearly 100% now.
