So once again my brother messages me on fb to let me know he found a shelter to stay at. He gave me the link so I could check it out. Now while he's never admitted to being on any drugs (except "smoking pot every once in a while") this sounds like a place to help drug/alcohol addicts of sorts to me, or am I wrong?

It totally wouldn't suprise me if he is on drugs given his history and odd behavior and attitudes, after all I have always thought he HAS to be on drugs to be the way he is. IF indeed he is in this place, I hope he is getting much needed treatment for real this time and is serious about doing a 180.
Re: Am I misunderstanding this?
After reading further, they offer far to many treatments for this to be an "addicts" place. I guess the general thought is that if someone is homeless, there is likely a reason and they will help you get to the root of it. I am sure that drug and alcohol plays a large roll in most of the peoples situations but it looks like they are willing to look at more possibilites rather than passing everyone off as a homeless drunk.
Looks like he found a good place and I hope that it helps him.
I just did know what it meant by "wet shelter" so, wrongly obviously, I saw that they help drug/alcohol addicts and thought that's what it meant. We only have 3 "wet shelters" in the area, most of the other shelters in this area (near here) are just plain shelters.
I know he said he's not guaranteed a bed everyday until he gets a job, which he said they give him "grants" to help him???? He couldn't tell me what that meant. Check in is at 5pm and it's first come first served, unless you have a job then there is always a bed with your name on it. At least this is what he tells me.
I know nothing about shelters and I just wanted to make sure he's got a place warm to stay.
I'm in agreement with Karrey on this one. Seems to me that they offer programs to help homless individuals get back on their feet regardless of the reason they are on the streets, including drug and alcohol addiction. It does look like a nice place and I hope that he is able to get in on a regular basis. Any chance of him getting a job so he could have a guaranteed spot?
Years of experience my dear.
Yeah, the way I am understanding it is that it's a normal shelter that is *to include* people who have drug/alcohol problems. Some shelters I have worked with in the past have zero tolerance for that stuff OR make them to go church every day, etc. This shelter is just saying they don't have any stipulations like that.
It does sound like he can only stay for 30 days though, even if he does manage to get a bed every day. What is his long-term plan?
Sorry you are having to deal with this, Sheri.
