Stuffing or Dressing??

Ok, so after the TPT post, I had to ask. Do you call it stuffing or dressing?[Poll]

Re: Stuffing or Dressing??

  • I'm personally a stuffing girl.
  • I call it dressing because according to my family, it is only stuffing if it is stuffed inside the turkey.  We dont stuff our turkeys.
  • I've always referred to it as stuffing.

  • We stuff our turkeys, and my I add, though biased, my MIL makes THE best stuffing from scratch!

My mom will fight your MIL for that title.

Actually, no, she wouldn't. I'm sure hers is also delicious.

  • I'm all about stuffing, I love it!!! I'm excited this year will be the first turkey I actually bake and i'm stuffing that bird Smile

It took me FOREVER when I first moved to Louisiana to realize what everyone was talking about when they said dressing . . . haha!

  • MMMM....stuffing!

We have to alternate recipes each year b/c both grandmas did it a little different.  one used bread as a base, the other used crushed saltines.

My favorite is the saltines one - but the bread one is good if you season it right.

I say this because I've always hated stuffing, thought it was one of the nastiest tasting things on the planet, until I had hers.

  • Stuffing, even though we don't stuff the turkey.

Is this one of those regional things?

  • Hmmm, never heard it called dressing. Dressing is what goes on a salad! So, STUFFING, YUmmmmmmm.

Yes, it is a regional thing.
  • I believe we buy Mrs. Cubbeson's Dressing to make Stuffing.  We are weetawtid.

I don't know if it's resgional or what but certain parts of DH's family (all from the same area) call it stuffing and others dressing.

According to Good Eats, back in the day stuffing was changed to being called dressing bc stuffing seemed inappropriate.

  • We call it stuffing but I've heard people talk about "dressing" the bird.

Haha!  Stuffing is appropriate for me because that's how I feel after I eat several helpings of it!  Yum!

Yup, I like stuffing too (even though we no longer stuff the bird with it). Dressing just sounds like a topping for a salad to me.

Sofa King. . . (do you know that one? Darn it, I can't remember the whole thing).

  • We call it stuffing, but N's family calls it stuffing when it's inside the turkey, and dressing when it's outside. So we are having both stuffing and dressing at Thanksgiving (I'm the one that voted Other).
  • I don't know if this is a PA Dutch thing or what - my family calls it "filling!" It's more or less the same thing with a little mashed potatoes in it and it's AMAZING! DH & I think my version is better than my mom's, I use wheat bread and a dash of cinnamon Big Smile Everyone else's is stuffing.
  • We fry our turkey, so it's not stuffed, but I still call it stuffing.
  • Dressing, but sometimes call it stuffing.

  • I asked DH this question at lunch, and he said "The crap you get from a box that says Stovetop is stuffing.  What you pull out of the @ss end of a turkey is dressing."  LOL
