I found out today that I'll need to start insulin injections to help control my blood sugar levels. I am feeling so defeated by gestational diabetes. It doesn't help that today is my 35th birthday...no chocolate cake for me.
Re: Insulin
First off.......HAPPY BIRTHDAY Lori !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BOO stupid GD!!! I'm so sorry!!! Maybe you can find sugar free cake. Don't let this defeat you completly and let it ruin your 35th birthday though.
Thanks Heather. I cannot do sugar free stuff (the substitutes give me migraines) so Joseph was sweet and found some mini profiteroles that fit my carb allotment. I can have 6. Better than nothing, I suppose. We're not going out to dinner though because it's too tough to navigate the menu with my GD restrictions.

That'd be nice! I did get a new Nikon D40 from my DH! Cannot wait to play with it!

Happy birthday, Lori!!!
I'm sorry you've had such a bummer time with GD. We all know you've done everything you can to take good care of yourself and your LO, so at least you can feel at peace with that. Have a great day and take the opportunity to enjoy all the non-food ways of indulging and celebrating!!!
I'm so sorry Lori
BUT a bright side to this, it's your birthday and that's reason to celebrate!!
Have fun with your new camera too, what a great gift!!!
Happy Birthday!

I'm so sorry that you have to take insulin shots Lori, but as a PP said, we all know how hard you've tried to manage your GD with your diet. You've done everything you can, so try to be gentle with yourself !
Enjoy your birthday - Happy 35th!!!

You are an amazing Mom already, don't lose grip of that... Libby will be here in no time and none of this will matter. I agree that the timing isn't so good though
, hang in there, the day is not lost yet. *hugs*

Aww, don't be so hard on yourself about GD. It's totally not your fault. Both my grandmothers had diabetes and they didn't even like sweets and they were underweight too, so there's really nothing we can do about these things sometimes. Just hang in there! You're already being the best mom ever for Libby and I know you're doing your best.
Wishing you a FANTASTIC DAY today. Happy birthday
It shouldn't, as long as my blood sugar levels can be controlled. The main concerns are with uncontrolled GD the baby can get too big too fast even though their lungs are not ready for them to be an outside baby. Another concern is that she could have low blood sugar when she's born because she will have been used to excess sugar from me. This is why I'll start insulin tomorrow...to head off any of these potential problems.
The only additional step my OB is taking now is that she will not allow me to go past 40 weeks. So if I do, I will be induced. Other than that, we're proceeding as planned.

Happy (late) birthday!
I'm so sorry you have to start taking insulin, but don't be too hard on yourself - you've done EVERYTHING you possibly could to avoid this, so don't beat yourself up. I know how restrictive and difficult GD can be, so I think you're doing fantastic right now!
