Um. Excuse me? (rant)

So. I usually like the owner of the company. She can be stingy at random times, but otherwise, she's pretty ok and she's from Boston, so that's a plus.

However, I just overheard a conversation between her, my manager, and one of my most over-worked colleagues . . . My colleague is our graphic designer and she has so much work to do. Plus we've been down a sales rep since August so she'd also had to take on customers.

I just heard the owner said, "I'm running a business, not a charity."

Um. What. I'm sorry that us working nonstop 45 hours a week and people BRINGING HOME WORK is not good enough for you. I'm sorry we get paid way less than people doing similar jobs in NYC. I'm sorry we've been understaffed since August (technically even before that) but you didn't want to hire anyone else, even though you had months of warning before the last employee left, because you're too flipping cheap. BIG FLIPPING SUPRISE WE CAN'T GET THINGS DONE ON TIME. There aren't enough hours in the day. We have customers non-stop, we're finally making decent money, but no, you don't want to hire someone new.

Because I'm a charity case? You know what's charity? Me working all those overtime hours and not getting paid a dime extra for them.

F this. J and I had a possible plan where I quit my job at the end of the year and move back up to MA to job search there (job searching from afar is not going well). I'm tempted to put that plan in action and leave them high and dry for the busiest month of the year (January). They would be beyond screwed.

  • I know how you feel!  I like your idea...they're not going to look out for you, I wouldn't worry about leaving them in the middle of their busy time.  That's their problem, not yours!

    If you can do it, I'd do it!  (Unfortunately, not the right option for moi... as I read yet another annoying email...).

    Hate it when people don't/can't/won't appreciate what you do...

  • I'd definitely stop working at home - and I wouldn't put in more than my 40/45 hours that my salary is based on.  If you can afford it - take the leap and see what you can find in MA.

  • If you are thinking of leaving I would FOR SURE stop working OT especially if you are not getting paid for it! Thats just bogus.

    When I quit my assit. mgr retail job it was the week of christmas! I hated my district manager sooo much. She kept telling me she'd give me a store and then hired one of her friends!! So I waited til the holidays and left her high and dry

    If you're already planning on leaving soon, definitely leave sooner. . . And I agree with Agent - quit doing any work at home!
