DH took our pup on a run last night and a horrible chow in the front of our neighborhood broke through its screen door and began chasing our dog. This is the SECOND TIME this SAME chow has done this, and the first time it scratched her up pretty bad.
So this time DH dropped her leash and she ran home. Apparently she ran so quickly on the street that she ripped her pads off three of her paws and broke most of her nails below the quick.
Imagine my shock when i hear something outside and my bloody dog is at my doorstep, leash dragging behind, minus my husband.
My poor dog can't walk (it is the most pathetic thing you'll ever see).
i'm just scared of what this chow will do with children if it is this mean to another dog, but if i report it, will they put it down? i don't them to necessarily kill the dog, but clearly its not meant for a neighborhood...

i had never met the owners until their dog attacked ours the first time (they live like 4 or 5 streets away). They offered to pay our vet bills and admitted their dog had severe dog aggression (it broke through their screen door to come after our dog, so clearly its not normal) and that they have tried to take it to training but it won't work. They swear it is fine around people, it just hates other dogs...
Either way i will never allow DH to run by there again...

Wow that is so horrible! I hope your pup feels better soon
I agree that those people should shut their door or exchange out their screen door for a glass storm door.
BUT I will say that just because a dog is dog aggressive it does not in anyway mean that it would ever be agressive to a person/child. It's a common area of mis/undereducation that a dog aggressive dog should be a concern for people and children. Dog-Dog Aggression and Dog-Human aggression are two VERY different things. I hope the owners have learned their lesson and will keep their dog away from any situation where it could escape and harm another dog.
I would suggest that your DH carry mace with him on his runs in case they encounter aggressive animals.

here is a pic of her i took with my computer of her chewing on a bone in bed with her infant socks on (vet suggested they were a good way to keep her paws clean and keep her from licking them).
