from now on..

my husband takes the car to get the flippin oil changed.

How does a simple oil change turn into tire rotations and new wiper blades?  I go in and say all I need is an oil change, he comes out mid way through and said, "well we are in the process of rotating the tires and changing out the wiper blades." In the process??  I felt like a deer in the headlights and I let him go ahead and do it when I should have said hellz no fool.  I need to get me a back bone dang it. ::huff::

Re: from now on..

  • UGH! That happens to me every freakin time!!! Its always something and they either have already done it without asking, or they make it sound like the car is going to blow up if I don't do _______. Last time I went in with my brand new American car (Poniac G6...a pretty common car) and they told me "your car takes an oil fliter that no other car takes and we have to charge you x amount extra or we can't change your oil" My oil change cost me like $80 just to change the oil!!! Its rediculous and I knew they were bs-ing me but I was on my lunch hour and leaving that night to go out of town so I needed it changed then. Those guys suck!
  • OMG so funny story about that.  I go in yesterday to get my oil change.  They do the "20 point inspection".  I told the guy before he even started I told him the front passanger hazard light (aka running light) was out and the bulb needed to be replaced.  So he does his inspection and comes back with "did you know you have a bulb out on the front passanger side" I said yes, that is why I asked you to replace it for me.  So he goes and pulls out the bulb that is bad. Then he says to me, try your signal now (it didn't blink fast any more but regular speed) I said oh that is much better.  He said ok do you want me to put the bulb back in?  It will do the same thing and blink fast again because it is out.  I said no, please replace the bulb, he said why it is just going to go out again, I said why do I have an electrical issue, he said no, this bulb is out.  So my eyes got really big (I do this when I am irritated lol) and said please replace the bad bulb with a new GOOD bulb so that it works properly (in the mean time the mechanic is standing behind this guy just shaking his head lol).  I will not go back there to get my oil changed again LOL!!!!  TARD.

  • That happened to me ONE time. I called DH and told them what they did he came up and asked why they would do that without asking me first. They didn't charge me and I kept the wipers and air filter they put on my car. I am pretty sure they do it because they think you are an idiot female who won't know any better. ::Not saying you are, but I am sure they think they can get things by women way more then men::

  • Oh yes and EMNI, the next time you go in to do that and they tell you they are rotating your tires and changing your blades.  Tell them you didn't ask for it and you won't pay for it.  Last time the tried to pull that one over on me I ended up getting free wiper blades lol.

  • This really happened?  What punks!  This never happens to me, and I would attack if someone tried to pull it.

KRC- although the G6 oil filter statement was a crock, know that the wiper blades are weird and cost 50$+ each.  However, you can special order them from AutoZone for about 20$ each.

  • I have to get my dad or brothers to change my oil or else I pay a little extra to take it to the expensive repair shop with the owner who knows my dad.  I have had oil change shops take parts out to show me and tell me they are bad (luckily my little knowledge of cars can tell they're totally fine -- the air filter is the big one they try to scam me on).  When I had a 67 Cougar (very easy to take things apart under the hood) I actually had a shop unscrew things.  Luckily I had a good ear for things sounding different so as soon as I got home I popped the hood and things were partially taken apart.  They see girls and just assume it's fair game to take advantage.  Grr...
  • I know, I should not have let them do it but I didn't want to raise a fuss in front of the other customers.  I'm such a wimp, but when they come at you with whole, "we're in the process of" it just really catches you off guard.  Husband is calling now and raising a stink about it.
