Has anyone ever worked for a temp agency?
It occurred to me that I might be able to do this and make a little extra money while I'm looking for a teaching job. Since it definitely won't start until a set date, I could take one for like a week, and we could definitely use the money! Has anyone ever done this? I have no idea where to get started or what to be careful of. Of course my biggest fear is that a temporary job would get in the way of my job search....like I wouldn't be able to go to an interview because I have to work type of thing. Or that I'd wind up in an office like Ryan did from the Office!!
Re: Has anyone ever worked for a temp agency?
LOL... Just say no to Dunder Mifflin!!
I worked for one when I was home from college in the summer. It was a great way to get some extra $$ working part-time hours. When I went in I took a few tests for typing, reading & math skills... that sort of thing.
I ended up working for an accounting firm since I was a math minor and it wasn't the best job, but it definitely helped financially at the time.
Good luck to you!
I've had a few friends who did it and it was at least something to do.
I meant to tell you this the other day & I forgot. I wanted to let you know that a lot of time school systems wait till the last "minute" to hire new teachers.
yeah that's what I'm afraid of!
I have done Spherion and OfficeTeam. I must preferred OfficeTeam because I would get calls all the time about jobs. I liked them so much that when they offerred me a temp position working at their front desk, I took it. I plan to go back to them while I wait for a permanent position to open up. You cna go to their website and upload your resume; just put that you are available now and they will call you either today or tomorrow to schedule an interview.
P.S. They do prefer more professional candidates and like to see business attire on their interview. It will definitely help you to get more offers. But be warned, your very first visit to OfficeTeam will take hours because they test you on some of your skill sets.
I don't really have any experience with this but lately have been seriously considering it as my situation is a little different. I'm trying to expand my own at home business while still having some stability by getting a job.
I'm actually working on my resume as we speak and plan on applying to some of these agencies to see what comes my way. I'll keep you updated as to how it goes.
I have worked in the past for Personnel One. They are easy to work with and always had lots of jobs for me. I am a teacher, so I would usually work with them during the summer. They are very flexible. Most the places I worked at were nice offices that frequently requested temps through them.
On the job search note... Where are you looking for positions? I teach in seminole county and may be able to help you somehow... let me know!
Good luck! What grade level are you looking for?
My last job was a temp to perm position. It was the frist job I got through the temp agency. I stay just over a year. It wasn't bad, but they said they went through a lot of duds before I came.
