5 daycare teacher gifts...

So I was thinking that I would make each of them a package with dry beer bread mix in it, what else should I package with it.  I was thinking a dip mix or a soup mix, has anyone had any successes?  Of course I will make up labels with instructions for them too.

Re: 5 daycare teacher gifts...

  • Personally I would stick to gift cards to Target or something similar. This way they can buy what they want or need. Unless I know the person very well I don't give food gifts because of allergies.
  • These are daycare teachers. They make diddly squat. Get them a gift card, or better yet, cash.

  • As a former daycare teacher and now middle school teacher, I think the beer bread sounds fine.  Maybe a nice mixing bowl or platter to go with it.  At least it shows you put thought into your gift.  Anything but candles and ornaments are fine...and food always gets great reviews!  I also have food allergies and it doesn't bother me.  If I get something I cant eat I usually bring it home anyway for my DH or serve it at a holiday party.
  • As a former daycare worker and now third grade teacher, get a giftcard.

    I wouldn't want beer bread....

  • Just a little note to the person who said they make diddly squat, I know at the health system that I work for and the daycare teachers work for they make more money than I do.

  • I love it when parents get together and all chip in and buy a gift card and give me cash. (or somethimes they don't cheap in and just give separate gifts) Honestly, I am a picky eater and I wouldn't eat the beer bread, but it is the thought that counts. (I just normally throw away or have to regift all those thoughts!)
  • I would get like a gift card (stearbucks, McDonald's, Subway) or maybe two movie passes.  The teachers I know always appreciate those.
  • money -- please MONEY. They do not get paid well.
  • I love getting gift cards to stores that I can get stuff for my class at. I like getting starbucks and stuff too, but I always need stuff for my class.

Also most the teachers at my school will not eat homemade gifts unless they know the family outside of school.

  • I taught preschool and child care and I would have really loved getting soup mix.  My favorite gifts I got over the years were cash, Target gift cards, and a reusable water bottle with a pair of pajama pants rolled up inside.  As long as you are straying away from the mug/bath set/anything apple/homemade by your child route you're good.

As far as pay, I made jack squat when I moved to TX, but actually made decent money (for the field) when I lived in MA.

Cash, gift cards, and edibles are definitely the way to go.

  • i work at a preschool.... the best gift ive gotten was a bottle of wine and glass charms..... that or cash.... i personally wouldnt want beer bread IMO

  • My mom is a preschool teacher. She makes nothing and works her butt off. She loves getting beautiful ornaments along with something like a gf to Target, grocery store, bookstore or Starbucks. She really appreciates it, but doesn't expect anything.
  • Last year I got my kids daycare teachers Barnes and Noble gift cards.  I did Target gift cards the year before that.  I wasn't able to get large increments because I had four teachers to buy for but I think they appreciate the sentiment.

  • Gift cards or cash if you must get something.  Really, a nice card expressing your thanks for what they do for your child would suffice.

I'm a teacher, and I can't tell you how many times I've had to throw out or regift stuff students have given me.  I appreciate the thought, but I don't need most of the stuff people like to give teachers.

And I do NOT eat homemade goodies as a general rule, nor do most teachers I know.

  • How much is appropriate for a gc?  TIA.
  • An appropriate Gift Card is $20.

As a "retired" teacher I can honestly say that I do not eat food from students unless I know the parents outside of school...and even then if it was only handled by an adult. Cleanliness is the issue.  Sealed pre-packaged foods are ok like Tastefully Simple mixes or something.

Avoid mugs, "teacher" gifts, and scented items (candles, lotion...)

  • Our parents pool their money together and give us a gift -- and everybody contributes. (granted, this is a private school and I know this probably wouldn't work with alls chool and/or parents)

So, we get a "big" cash amount or gift card. I also get parents that want to do more and their gift cards can range in a $5 gift car all the way up to $20 or more.

I don't eat homemade stuff either, but it is more b/c I am picky.
