French themed things in Chicago?
Help for a MN Nestie - My guy and I are heading to Chicago for a long weekend the 10-15th and as our Christmas presents to one another, we're each planning a romantic evening.
My plan is to do a "French" themed evening/day on Saturday the 12th. I've made reservations at Mon Ami Gabi in Lincoln Park. What other "French" things are there to do in Chicago?
I know, really random question - we both are dying to go to Paris this year, but the cards didn't line up for a big trip so I thought it'd be fun to do Paris in Chicago or something like that.
Re: French themed things in Chicago?
When I think of Paris, I think of the food. Here are a few other ideas:
French Bistro: Cyranos (546 N. Wells) - this is my favorite french bistro in the city - or Le Petis Paris (260 E. Chestnut).
Fondue: Geja's Cafe (340 W Armitage)
Patisserie/Chocolate: Julius Meinl (1414 W Iriving Park), Vosges (951 W Armitage)
Wine Bar/Cheese: http://www.gayot.com/restaurants/best-chicago-il-top10-winebars_5ch.html
Chicago and Paris both have spectacular architecture - Chicagos city plan was actually based on some Parisian principles when it was rebuilt after the great fire, so maybe check out some of the historic CAF walking tours: http://www.architecture.org/tours.aspx
I agree with the other poster about LeCreperie...it is sooo cute and romantic in there! My husband and I love to make a night of going to an independent film across the street at Landmark Century Theater and then over to LeCreperie for wine and dessert. http://www.landmarktheatres.com/market/Chicago/Landmark'sCenturyCentreCinema.htm They have a lot of foreign films too, maybe you could get lucky and there will be a French movie playing!!
Also, there is an old theater from the 1920's called the Music Box Theater, and they play a lot of foreign and classic films too. http://www.musicboxtheatre.com/
And a cute little French Bistro in River North, right off of Michigan Ave is Pierrot Gourmet.
Have fun...sounds like such a great idea!
