cloth diaper sales

Re: cloth diaper sales

  • Thanks for posting this. I wish I had already looked into the cloth diapering thing more closely. So far I think I have decided on bum genious 3.0 one size. Have you heard or do you know anything good or bad about these diapers?

Thanks for posting this. I wish I had already looked into the cloth diapering thing more closely. So far I think I have decided on bum genious 3.0 one size. Have you heard or do you know anything good or bad about these diapers?

there are pros and cons to all diapers :) people like the BG b/c they are one size, have a "stay dry" effect like sposies do, and they are very user friendly since they are just like sposies (they're "all-in-one" (AIO) diapers).  one downside w/these that everyone experiences is that b/c they are AIOs they take a very long time to dry in the dryer...and it is the most expensive CD'ing option (AIOs in general are)

some people use the BG w/o any problems, while others do have stink/ammonia/fish smell problems w/them b/c they are made of microfiber inners and synthetic fibers tend to have stink issues more than natural fibers like cotton, bamboo, etc.  some babies also have sensitive skin and don't tolerate the microfiber against their skin.  the velcro ones do show wear/tear faster than other velcro diapers from what I have heard, so you are less likely to be able to use them for LO#2. that said, you could also put money into getting the velcro replaced...and if the velcro goes out w/in the 1st year, cottonbabies will replace it for you since they are still under warranty

it's really hard to say until you try them out on your baby...like I said, some people use these and love them while others find they either don't like them or they encounter some of the issues mentioned above.

one thing to note is that most one size diapers do not fit babies until they are at least 8+ lbs so it kind of depends on how big your baby is at birth (keeping in mind babies lose weight after they are born first, before they start growing).  a lot of moms like to use prefolds w/covers until the baby grows into these diapers b/c it's the cheapest/most economical option.

this and this are pretty good links if you want to do more research. for this link, make sure you click on the drop down menu under where is says "New to Cloth Diapers?" to view each page as there are several

hope that helps a little! I know it's a bit overwhelming at first

  • Wow, thanks so much Jamie!  What kind do you guys use?
  • I knew I wouldn't have a huge baby so I knew she wouldn't fit into any of the one-size diapers... so we have prefolds and covers.  I have a few of everything to try on her to see what we like, though the only non-prefold diaper I have tried on her so far has been an XS sposoeasy (really love them! they are nice and trim under clothing and they dry faster than most AIOs b/c the insert is only sewn in on one end)...I have some bum genius organic cotton AIOs, goodmama fitteds, grobaby AI2 (all in two b/c the insert snaps in), and bottombumpers to try. the only diaper type I didn't get to try was a pocket diaper b/c I don't want to have to reach in and pull out a dirty/soaked insert from a pocket (I have read a lot of moms don't like pocket diapers for this reason)... and after taking a soaked prefold off Annalise after a long nap, I can see how reaching into a diaper to pull out a soaked insert would be no fun.

I wasn't sure if I would like prefolds or not but they really aren't that hard to use. people talk about how hard they are to use compared to AIOs but really they aren't THAT hard.  sure, they take a few seconds longer than AIOs but they are still easy to use overall.  I only had to show Brent once how to do it and he caught on right away....still, I know some men won't CD unless it is w/an AIO diaper.  the AIOs are really convenient to have when you go out though and want to be able to change them as quickly as possible. as she gets bigger, we'll fine tune our stash and figure out if we'll stick w/prefolds or gets more AIOs or fitteds but for now i am pretty sure we're going to be using mostly prefolds.

Hey Julie...as you can see Jaime is the Queen of CD Research!  She's helped me build my stash too.  We're keeping it simple...prefolds, snappis and thirsties covers (I got a couple of Duos too...we'll see how I like them).

When it comes to daycare (maybe when Libby is 6 months or so) I may see if I can talk them into using AIOs.  If so, we'll get some.  But as Jaime said they are the most expensive CD option and not necessarily the best.

For about $250 we got all the stuff we'll need to CD...3 dozen cotton prefolds in two sizes (infant and regular)...thirsties covers in a variety of sizes and a package of 3 snappis (will get more, as needed).  I also got two used Bummis Whisper Wraps to use when Libby is small (God willing I won't deliver a 10 lb baby!).  We hope to be able to use this stash with Baby #2 when the time comes and kept the covers fairly gender neutral (blue, green, yellow, white, etc.  I did get a couple of pink and purple ones too).

Read my blog post about cloth diapers at Pregosaur for more details.

Almost all of my stuff came from MomsMilkBoutique.com...they have great deals and free shipping.  They also have a 30-day Fling with Fluff package so you can try all sorts of CD products for 30-days for just $20.  That may help you decide what is best for you guys.

If you' re savvy like Jaime you can also find all sorts of deals on DiaperSwappers.com - I may use them if we decide to build an AIO stash for daycare.

We're also doing cloth wipes and I got some from Amazon.com and Etsy.com too.  Way cheaper than buying disposable wipes...plus better for baby, the environment and the budget.

My BFF has been CDing her son for over a year now and totally swears by it.  They use a diaper service and just go with PFs, snappis and covers (Thirsties).

  • We CD Bella too! I'm a little late to post because I haven't been on here much but we're using PF's, thirsties and snappis. I love it and so does DH. The GMD prefolds hold a ton of pee and in 4 months we've only had 2 leaks at night.
