Gift ideas for 14 y/o boy?
I'm having a card time coming up with ideas for my 14 year old nephew. I'd like to do better than a gift card, but am having a hard time coming up with ideas. Any suggestions would be welcome.
He likes to read and video games, but I'm afraid I'd buy something he has or is getting from other family. He's involved in sports (lacrosse, football, wrestling).

Re: Gift ideas for 14 y/o boy?
I think Axe or Old Spice kits are good (with body wash, deodorant, spray, etc). They have them at Target and Walmart. Also, if you know their taste in movies, DVDs can be popular.
Also, I think most teens (and people in general) like gift cards because they can pick out what they want. Most teens don't think they are lame or impersonal.
Can't you ask his parents what they're getting him? At least to avoid getting a duplicate gift...
If he likes video games, the new Call of Duty is really fun- though you probably want to ask his parents in case they're uptight about violent video games.
Or just give a gift card. I'm almost 25 and I don't think they're lame or impersonal either. I think many people would rather have a gift card than have someone guess and buy something "more personal" that is either unwanted or not needed.
If you want a gift card to be more personal, get one for a book store or some other store that has specific things he likes. Just make sure they don't expire or start charging fees after a few months.
Can I just say no to any sort of Axe or Old Spice for teenage boys? They tend to overdo it and trust me it smells horrific.
I just purchased The Hobbit for my nephew and I believe they are making it into a movie next year. I would also ask his parents for suggestions.
This is an easy one since I have a 16y/o boy...
Although gift cards seem impersonal I would go that route. An iTunes card is a great gift for a teen. If they have one nearby a gift card to GameStop is also good.
Otherwise I would check with the parents to see what game he would like for his gaming system but check to make sure what system it is. The new Call of Duty is on Alex's list.
Food is a fun idea too. You could see what types of snack food he likes and make a basket for him. Teenage boys will eat you out of house and home. Last year Alex had microwave popcorn on his Christmas list so two of my relatives each got him a case at Sams...super popular gift...Gum is another thing...the 5 gum is popular with teens.
Unless this is a kid you see very frequently so you get a good idea of his style I would not attempt clothes. Also, avoid the hygiene products...not only do they over do the Axe (which is cool) but other scents and products are considered lame...and God fobid you are lame...LOL

I know this will probably not be a popular comment, but an I Tunes gift card is a waste of your money. I don't know anyone that age who doesn't download music. Yes it's illegal but they still do it.
Either way, as cheap as songs on I Tunes are, I'd rather have a gift card to Target or somewhere like that.
