Which PS3 to get?

DH wants one for Christmas.  He doesn't do much gaming anymore (and has an XBox 360 already), and only wants it for the BluRay player.  Which one should I get?  120 GB?  250 GB?  DH is well versed in upgrading computers himself, so could he buy more RAM (I'm assuming that's what the GB's are....I'm NOT a computer person) and install it himself?

thanks!

Re: Which PS3 to get?

  • Those are both the PS3 Slim models right?  If so, there's nothing different between them other than the hard drive space (120 GB or 250 GB).  If everything else is equal, go for the best deal.  It's really easy to upgrade/replace the hard drive in a PS3 - Sony made it that way on purpose.
  • We have the 80GB one from like 2 years ago and still have plenty of space on it. Get the 120GB!

Another thought - if he only wants it for the Blu-Ray player, why not just get a plain Blu-Ray player?  Why a PS3?

  • Just an FYI, the new PS3's cannot play PS2 games if your DH has any that he would want to play.

  • My H told me the reasons why he wanted to use the PS3 almost exclusively as a blu ray, and I forget them. But I think it had something to do with the super fast processing speed. That enables the movies to load way faster than a conventional blu ray player. I know there were other reasons, streaming and whatnot...
