What to serve at a cookie-decorating party?

The party will be at 6:30ish on a Saturday, so I'm thinking heavier appetizers.

I'm shying away from too many sweets... Also, no bacon, as I don't eat pork.

So far I've got:

Crackers and cubed cheese
Cream cheese and cherry jam dip

What else? What to drink?

Re: What to serve at a cookie-decorating party?

  • Veggies and dip or fruit and dip. Chips and salsa, taco dip.

  • Instead of cubed cheese, why not do a cheese plate with a variety of cheeses on it and forego the cream cheese dip?

    Some other appetizers:

    Potato Parsnip Latkes

    Butternut Squash Galette

    Spanakopita Triangles

Are you wanting to serve alcohol or go the nonalcoholic route?  I have a ginger and pineapple sparkling punch in my food blog that I made for a baby shower and it was wonderful.  If you want to put an alcohol with it, gin, champagne or vodka would be great.

  • I'm a big fan of just taking a wheel of brie, throughing some berrie jam on top witha  little nuts or maple syrup, through it in the oven so it's nice and melted and have crackers with it. (looks fancy even though it's sooooo easy!)

veggies are always good with dip too:)

  • If your looking for a hot appetizer-Take pillsbury crescent rolls, before rolling them spread pesto on them. Roll them up, place on a cookie sheet & sprinkle parmesan cheese on top. Bake according to the directions. They are so easy & yummy.

  • sabrina-to make that even yummier-after you've covered the brie in jam and nuts, wrap it in croissant bread or pastry dough, then bake. So yummy!

I'd stay away from sweet stuff, since you'll be playing with sweet stuff. Maybe a meat and cheese platter, and a veggie platter?

  • 6:30 is really dinner time, so you'll need to have some heavier options.  Keep things cut small so that people can munch easily.  Maybe different types of wraps cut into fourths, some type of gourmet pizza but into small pieces, sweedish meatballs, etc.
