Espn.com saying a source close to the situation says Weis is out.
I know I've done this before, but who do you think will be his replacement? My money is on Brian Kelly from Cincinatti.
I don't think they have a shot in hell at Urban Meyer, but I could be wrong. Maybe some Stoops, and ESPN said they're looking at Butch Davis?! Hrmm...
Re: Weis.... DONE!
I was wondering when "someone close to the situation" would say that he's out.
My money's on Brian Kelly, too...I'm pretty sure Stoops isn't leaving OU [at least, not this year], and Urban Meyer is a SUPER long shot...
I really hope Urban doesn't leave UF for ND!
I'd love for Saban to leave this state and go up there but that probably won't happen. I think there is a good chance of Brian Kelly taking it..
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
The entire state of Oklahoma's going to flip if Stoops leave. Personally, I could care less - I'm an Oklahoma State girl - but Stoops bailing on OU after a crappy season won't bode well with OU fans. It could get ugly here.
get out...I would have seen Meyer before Stoops
I've never believed the Meyer talk. The rumor five years ago was that Meyer was offered the job but wanted a certain number of academic exceptions per year. That might be bunk, but if it's true, I can't imagine he'd have changed his tune after his time at Florida.
If anyone is interested, here is the email they sent students over an hour ago (I was in class so I just now got it)
Weis will not be retained as Notre Dame football coach
University of Notre Dame head football coach Charlie Weis will not be retained, University director of athletics Jack Swarbrick announced today (Nov. 30).
?We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations,? Swarbrick said. ?As an alumnus, Charlie understands those goals and expectations better than most, and he?s as disappointed as anyone that we have not achieved the desired results.?
Swarbrick recommended the dismissal Sunday night to Notre Dame?s president, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.
?We have established an evaluation process for all of our athletic programs that, in the end, results in a recommendation from Jack to me,? Father Jenkins said. ?I accepted Jack?s decision and look forward to working with him on selecting a new head football coach who is the very best choice possible for the University and especially for our student-athletes.
?I am most appreciative to Coach Weis for his service to Notre Dame and our community. He and his family have my prayers and best wishes.?
Weis spent five seasons as Irish head coach from 2005-09, with his teams achieving consecutive records of 9-3 (Fiesta Bowl appearance) in ?05, 10-3 (Sugar Bowl appearance), 3-9, 7-6 (Hawai?i Bowl victory) and 6-6 in ?09 ? for an overall 35-27 mark.
Swarbrick announced that Rob Ianello, the Irish assistant head coach/offense, wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, will assume responsibility for football operations until a new coach is hired. Ianello has spent the past five seasons on the Notre Dame staff and previously was part of football staffs at Wisconsin (1990-93, 2003-04), Arizona (1994-2002) and Alabama (1987-89).
Thanks for sharing that, Irish! Very interesting, but not unexpected in the least.
I have always liked Stoops, since his days at UF, with the exception of Jan 8, 09. : ) I hope he can turn things around at ND and bring the program back to prominence so ND will be a worthy opponent once again. I am a bit surprised he left OK, but I guess ND is one of those dream jobs/challenges for college coaches.
As of now, he hasn't left. It's all rumor and speculation.
I've never liked Stoops. To me, he comes across as arrogant (I don't like arrogant). BUT, he IS a good coach. And, man oh man, this could definitely get extremely interesting here in Oklahoma.
Except in BCS bowl games, apparently.
Sigh...this graphic never gets old.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I love you.
Hey TJ - I agree. Stoops is an awesome coach. If he happens to go to ND, they're gonna be a force to reckon with again, I'm sure. It's not that I don't like Stoops, I guess...he's done some amazing things with OU, and no one can knock that.
But as for this graphic...it makes me laugh.
Just FYI its Tuesday and Oklahoma State still has not scored.
So glad I came upon this post.
Sorry to my OSU girls, but I just laughed.
Meh. I laughed, too.
It was downright ridiculous. Buuuuut, win or lose (or get totally blown out), they're still my boys.
That game WAS downright ridiculous. But whatev. I'm just glad it's over - OSU football can move on with their lives and figure out how to get the offense and defense playing well at the same time. That would be a freaking miracle.
Saban also said he was staying at LSU. I've learned not believe anything anybody says until the ink's on the contract.
If Stoops turns out to be a liar like Saban and Les Miles, then we don't want him anyway. He's not going to ND - at this point, he has had multiple press conferences to state he plans to be at OU this next season. And also - lets look at how Stoops has handled things like this in the past - he was heavily recruited by Florida and flat out said - I went down to Florida, I talked to them, they came up here and talked to me, they offered me the job, I told them no. Stoops may be cocky but he's not a liar.
