So did anyone get any innappropriate comments from family this past weekend?

I got two:

From hubs grandma who is 80 something... "You haven't been running latelty have you?" as she looks me up and down- clearly noticing I've put on a few (yes only a few!) lbs since the last time she saw me. Tongue Tied

And from 16yr old little SIL:

"You better get to it aren't you going to be TOO OLD soon?!?" As she pats me on the back while people are going ga ga over my currently 7 months preggie SIL.

My mom was there and heard her and did NOT appreciate her comment. Mom had to pull me aside and vent soon after that comment and reassured me that in fact, my uterus will not rot out of my body and to not rush into it.

No shiz mom? lol. I love my mom.

  • Ouch, that sucks.

We went to visit family in San Francisco and this is the first time H has come with me. My family was convinced that he was only there so we could announce that I'm pregnant.

I got a million comments from aunts and cousins about it. My aunt even told me that my cousin bought me a card and a present just in case! I haven't really gotten any pressure about it until now but it totally drove me nuts.

  • I FINALLY got a "when are you going to get knocked up" comment from my parents. I've always been so glad they didn't pressure me, but my dad got drunk and it slipped out. I never expected it from my dad. Tongue Tied It ended up giving me a huge headache and I had to go to bed early.

  • I got the usual. From BIL, "you realize you are my parent's only hope, right?" I just responded a smart ass remark back referring to law school (FILs whole side are lawyers, and I'm the first for this generation)

I got some texts from family back home making me feel guilty about staying here for the holiday but I just ignored those

I guess it's sweet of them to be excited, at least they don't try to make me feel bad.

  • One of R's brothers kept telling me how much I am "spoiling" Bella because I attend to her needs instead of letting her cry because she's two months old. This brother (and SIL) have a four year old who punches people in the face and still isn't 100% potty trained. They topped dinner off by announcing they're pregnant with #2.

  • Nothing directed towards me but my aunt was pretty annoying. She was talking about my cousin's inheritance he just got. Who discusses money? Really? Then she was lecturing my 22 year old brother about not wearing jeans to my great aunt's memorial (that was the day after Thanksgiving) b/c the memorial was at a country club and my aunt "doesn't want to get kicked out of her country club." My brother was dumb founded b/c he had his suit ready to go. Then when we get to the memorial, my aunt is wearing effing black jeans! And her own son (my cousin) who didn't come to thanksgiving, didn't even show up for my great aunt's memorial.
  • I received 2, both from my SIL

One comment from her was after my older son (who is 4) showed his car toy to the family that arrived and raced around the house with it.  She commented, "I hope that is a boy behavior only, and not something girl's do, I hope, I hope".  UMMMMMMMMMMMMM... he was excited to show off his car toy, he did NOT do anything unusual and we were at my house anyway, so he can race around if he pleases!!! (My brother and SIL have 2 girls under 2)

Second comment was regarding my struggle with feeding my kids.  They are not exactly the easiest to feed, but her question about it kind of rubbed me the wrong way.  If I am still thinking about it up to now, I consider it inappropriate.

Yikes.  And to Yahpee and YL too.

I got more than my fair share of these comments.  This line kept going through my head "I hate people" during TG dinner.  I tweeted about it.

  • Nope. I spent Thanksgiving eating venison in Canada. Totally TWTG.
  • Good thing about family far far away... nothing inappropriate.  Smile

Random question, is venison something I can buy at the store?  I remember having it growing up (yuuuummy), but it was given to us from a family friend that shot and killed the deer.

  • Hmm. I've never looked for venison at a supermarket in Southern California.  I've only ever had it at restaurants or at friends' houses (and, like your situation, the deer had been hunted by the friend).
  • i could swear i've seen venison meat at whole foods.

  • Nothing inappropriate but I just had to listen to my MIL say a million times how excited she is for "our" baby to be here. I get it, you are excited but please STFU. I really need my SIL to get pg ASAP to difuse some of the attention.
  • Not really inappropriate, but more of the "funny" Christy/Misty, Sandy/Mandy, Lily/Millie comments from a certain family member.  It's really getting old.  I guess that's what we get for keeping their names on the DL...

  • My family pretty defines dysfunction, so I was fielding inappropriate questions and comments left and right. Some of my personal favorites:

?Are you dating anyone??  Which was of course followed by, ?Is he Black??

?Is the whole vegetarian thing so you can lose weight??  Followed by an appraising up and down look which pretty much implied, ?if it is, it?s not working.?

?Your daughter is so cute, I should?ve married a White man.? (from a random friend of my uncle?s girlfriend after her 3rd or 4th Hennessy)

Oh and another gem from the Hennessy soaked friend, "You speak so proper, I bet you got a good job."

Btw, I really wish I was kidding.

Wilted Flower  I hate when random people tell me my baby will have good hair and pretty skin because MH is white.

Get used to it...people have no shame when it comes to this subject. The Princess is extremely light skinned with sandy brown curly Keri Russell type hair and the comments have ranged from offensive to borderline ridiculous.

  • Nothing inappropriate was said to me, however, 13 year old BIL told his mother to "go to hell."  Yeah, he's still in trouble.

  • Not inappropriate, but my ILs asked H after dinner (I was on my way to SD) whether we were ever planning on having kids. "No pressure, but if you could just let us know so we can stop getting our hopes up if you never plan on having them, it would be nice." Made H and I feel so. bad. I think if the tone had been different, we'd have just brushed it off, but from how H relayed it to me, they really weren't trying to add any pressure, but just wanted to know. :(
  • wow, there are some doozies!

FIL kept asking us if we had names picked our for our (non-existent) children.  can we back up and get PG first?  it was such an odd convo.

  • My skinny cousin must have said at least 3 times. "Wow, Jenn, you are REALLY pregnant."

    Translation: "You are HUGE".

I wish this was the case with my 13 year old brother. He treats everyone like crap, ran away once & smokes pot. How long before he gets ungrounded because my mother doesn't have a backbone? I'm betting 2 months.
