Are You Hiring?

My husband is looking for a new job.  He was laid off at the beginning of the downturn of the economy and was fortunate enough to find another position. However, that position has turned out to be an awful experience.  They owe him for three weeks of pay.  They demoted him to an hourly associate from salaried because they couldn't afford to pay him that much anymore.  Basically, everything they promised him in the beginning hasn't come true.  So, we're looking for something a little more stable.  I was wondering if you ladies knew of any openings within your companies?  DH has three degrees: Restaurant/Hotel Management, Psychology, and Marketing.  I guess he was bored in college.  He has most of his experience in restaurant management, though he has worked in the hotel industry and has marketing experience from owning his own coffee shop and managing other restaurants.  Thanks in advance for a heads up on any positions.  We would really like to feel more stable before we start planning a family.

Re: Are You Hiring?

  • Sorry, I do not know of anyone hiring. We are in the same boat. The hubs got laid off in June and is working part time as a book keeper for his friends construction company, bartending part time at the Aragon, and just took a part time job at a retail cell phone store with hopes to take a store manager job in February. He's working 7 days a week and a little close to what he was before, but he's getting a so worn out!

  • Thanks for commiserating!  It's relieving to know someone else is in the same boat.  DH works 6 days a week and is gone for about 10 hours a day.  Boo!!

  • I feel your pain. At his previous job, he worked Monday through Friday 7:30-3:30 and I got to take the car to the train. So besides only seeing each other in passing sometimes, I am without a car 90% of the time Crying

  • You could check out OfficeMax.com for their Corporate Offices in Naperville, IL - I know that they are not currently on a hiring freeze and there are positions posted. There are a few positions that could fit your husbands qualifications.

I love working for OfficeMax! It really is a great company to work for:)

  • Sears Corporate is always hiring in Hoffman Estates - a good 1/3 of the company lives downtown and commutes b/c it's pretty easy. Take the blue line to the Rosemont stop and there's a bus that goes straight to the building - or you can drive. Not sure what kind of pay you're looking for but it's a steady pay-check, good health benefits, and normal hours. :)
