Emma will be going through some extra medical testing soon. The tests that are run by the state when babies are born did not all come back normal. She did not pass the cystic fibrosis screening. So she has to have a sweat test (sounds like fun) and see a pulmonologist in a couple of weeks. Apparently, the state test is a broad screening and has a high rate of false positive......but when you are already hormonal and emotional and someone calls and tells you that your baby may have a nasty disorder, you freak out a bit. We are hoping to have fallen into the false positive category!!
Either way, from what the peds office told us, more than likely she does not have it but may be a carrier. So please keep us in your prayers. And I guess DH and I need to be checked before baby #2 to make sure that we both aren't carriers.
Thanks!!
Re: Positive thoughts needed
So sorry to hear the bad news! I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers that Emma falls into the false positive catergory.
Thank you all for your well wishes!
We had an appt with our pedi today....weight / check-up. He says that from what he has seen from the first screening, he feels that she is most likely just a carrier ant most likely doesn't have CF. We have an appt on Aug 5 for the sweat test and an appt with pulmonologist/genetic specialist. DH and I will probably get some testing at some point, before we have baby #2 to make sure we both aren't carriers. In order for our children to get CF, we would both have to be carriers. But if only one of us is a carrier, then our children won't get CF but could possibly be carriers.
Thanks again!!
*fingers crossed* Keep us updated, Ellen!
