Another should I get an IPhone Question

So I have US Cellular and my contract doesnt end until Dec of 2010. Im not eligiable for a phone upgrade until June. I really cant/dont want to wait that long for a new phone.

I dont have the internet on my current phone because we/my FI didnt want to pay for it. Now Im sort of regretting saying that it didnt matter. Now that I dont have it, I realized how often I used it.

So if you ladies could help me out, that would be awesome. TIA!

Re: Another should I get an IPhone Question

  • My first suggestion would be to just save your money and wait until you can upgrade or change contracts without a fee.  Unless you use the internet on your phone for your job, it's not something you need and you can surely live without it for a while longer.

My second suggestion would be that if this is a common occurrence (wanting a phone well before the end of your contract), then get a mobile plan with a shorter contract (example: I'm on a one-year contract with T-Mobile at the moment) or with no contract at all.  This means you might have to pay a little more up front for your phone, but you can also switch carriers and phones at any time, without having to wait for the end of the contract or having to pay an early termination fee.

Third, make sure to price compare.  It may end up being cheaper for you to just pony up the money for a brand new smart phone on US Cellular than it would be to switch to another carrier and get a new phone through them.

Last, it sounds like you just want a phone that can get on the internet more than you want an iPhone specifically.  Have you looked around at what other smart phones are out there?  For example, Blackberries and Android phones are really big and might be perfect for what you will use your phone for.
