Did anyone go to Cumberland Valley schools?

We are looking into moving into a new development in Mechanicsburg and it's in the CV school district.  I have heard some not so good things about this district and was wondering if anyone can fill me in.    Thanks!

Re: Did anyone go to Cumberland Valley schools?

  • We live in the CV district, but don't have any kids yet.  We checked out the ratings and I felt comfortable with the scores.  The ratings between CV and Mechanicsburg were very close.

The main thing is, it's a much larger school system.  So, you have both the negatives and the drawbacks of a large school.  However, there are benefits.  For example, it's more competative to get onto a sports team.  There are also more options of sports to play.  We decided we like the opportunities that a large school gives.  Some people focus more on individualized attention.  Neither is wrong, they are just different philosophies.

Almost all of the "bad" things I hear about CV relate to its size.  I talk to the neighbor kids regularly, and I'm comfortable with the idea of our future kids (if we have them) going to CV.  My mom, aunt, and uncle all went to CV many moons ago, and they turned out alright ;)

  • I graduated from CV and have no compliants (besides from the large size of the school).  When I went to college, I was more than prepared with my college-prep classes.  I would love to move back to the CV area.  Good luck!
