POLL Do you go to formal holiday parties?

We don't, but I'm curious about the rest of you - do you ever go to holiday parties where you would wear a formal-type gown?

Re: POLL Do you go to formal holiday parties?

  • I've only been to one and it was a long time ago. It was with the company my date worked with. I didn't have fun because that was our first (and last) date and it was just kind of boring. His work friends weren't too fun, and I'm really bad around people I hardly know, let alone a large group of people.
  • No. Thankfully neither of our friends are this way. The most formal they get is cocktail/semi-formal attire. Also, I work in a small office (3 people), so it's not like we'll be hosting one and DH is military and his department has a party, but it's not formal.

  • At my DH's old firm, yes.  They have an annual black-tie holiday party.

  • No.

I work from home.  The rest of my coworkers are on the opposite side of the country.

Husband's company doesn't really do anything.  They are weird/cheap like that.

We go to formal gala's etc the rest of the year, but thankfully not during the holidays. Too much going on, plus I much prefer cozy home parties at that time of year.

  • My husband's company Christmas party is formal to semi-formal at a formal conference/banquet center with prime rib, champagne, etc.  Some people are in nice suits/gowns and some are in semi-formal attire like dress pants and a dressy top, and there are a handful of people in jeans for some reason.  I usually wear dress pants or skirt and a dressy jacket, and my husband wears dress pants, dress shirt and tie.  I've thought about wearing a formal dress, but always decide against it for some reason.   Maybe next year just for fun.

  • no, but I would love to.  I wear jeans and blouse to work every day and I love any excuse to get all dressed up.

  • we have an annual work gala, but its in Feb. Some women wore long gowns last year, but that is NMS. I wore a short formal dress and my DH wore a suit.
  • Most places I have worked have a formal holiday party.

We have one coming up soon.

    Hope is not a strategy.
  • Yes, I attend a black-tie Christmas party as well as a NYE party every year. My family hosts the Christmas one and the NYE party is hosted by friends of the family. I love getting dressed up in black tie attire. I get my hair and makeup done for the parties too.

  • We have never attended any.  My work has formal holiday parties but we never go.

  • DH's company has a very formal black tie event around the holidays. Usually its the end of Jan or early Feb so everyone can attend.  I love it, but I hate the stress of finding a full length gown.

  • I've never been to a formal holiday party. ?My work doesn't even have them. ?We usually just have a casual luncheon during work. ?But I wouldn't my dressing up for one. ?It sounds like fun!
  • I did once for my DH's previous employer. It was a blast! It was super nice and it was at a museum in Hartford, CT. It really was a good time and so much fun to get all dressed up.

  • Nope, my social circle is casual, and my work party is a potluck during office hours. DH's work party is the same.
  • I've been to two for DH former company, one year it was at the GA aquarium which was really cool. He works for a smaller company now and the parties are held in people's homes. Speaking of which I need to figure out what to wear, the first one is this weekend.
  • DH's work has a holiday party at a nice hotel, but it's more semi-formal.  Women wear cocktail dress or slacks/dressy top, and men wear slacks and dress shirts, and some wear ties.
  • No, neither DH or I are in a situation where we would have one to attend. I wouldn't mind going to one if there ever was a purpose. I enjoy dressing up and going out, but again, it would have to be a party with a purpose not just one with a bunch of people who look down their noses at everyone there.
  • Yes. But more semi-formal/cocktail attire vs. evening gown and ball gown.  My company and DH's company both have semi-formal "Winter Parties" every year in January.  They are dressy, he's usually in a suit/tie, and I usually go out and buy a new dress...usually something nice from Nordstrom or Macy's for about $100..nothing TOO extravagant.

My inlaws also have a dressy Christmas Eve Party with the entie extended family.  I typically just wear a casual dress or black slack and cute/shiny top.  Dh does the dress shirt/slacks, no tie for that event.

  • Nope.  It would be kind of nice to go to something where we have to dress up, but that's not really my type of friends or family.  We had a formal holiday party at a previous job.
  • I've never been to one.  DH's company does "Christmas parties", but it's either a very casual lunch or dinner and spouses are NOT invited.
  • Not so much.  There is one pre Christmas and one New Years, that's about it.
  • My work Christmas party is formal.  I've got my dress picked out for this year, and am excited to wear it!
