BR: Non-clicky poll...When did you first feel...

....your baby move? I'm 17 weeks today and I think I may have felt a little movement last week but nothing since. If you can remember how far along were you when you first felt your baby move? And describe what you felt (a kick from the outside, flutters from within)?

Re: BR: Non-clicky poll...When did you first feel...

  • That's it, you probably felt the baby! I was just about 17 weeks when I first thought I felt her. I was sure it was her at 19 weeks and my husband felt her at 20 weeks.

This is how I described the first movement at 17 weeks (on my blog, click on "movement") ----

It was like my stomach lurched. It wasn't gas or hunger pains, but it was a sharp, definite feeling - like nothing I've ever felt before! It was like I was on a roller coaster. Like someone was pinching me from behind my belly button. Or a fist was doing a summersault in my belly. It felt so weird!

This is how I described it at 19 weeks:

For most of the last week, I have been wondering whether the weird, occasional things I was feeling were Lima Bean or if it was just gas or my imagination.
Well, folks, I am now pretty certain that it is indeed Baby Bean kicking and flip-flopping around in there!

This certainty started on Friday and has continued throughout the weekend. Even this afternoon at work and now as I sit down to type, I feel the little sucker doing something in there.

Usually it's at night when I'm laying in bed reading. Or when I am sitting at the computer. And definitely after a big meal! Tonight I made butternut squash pizza and Bean is now having a field day with it!

But the movement is hard to describe. Sometimes if feels like a fish is swimming in my stomach. I imagine that a round glass bowl is in my belly and there is a gold fish fluttering about.

Other times, it feels like a my stomach turning over. It's similar to what you would feel on a roller coaster. It definitely feels like something (Lima Bean, I presume?) wriggling around or flipping around.
And if I'm really still, I swear I can see my stomach ripple! Papa Bean tried looking at my belly on Friday and I think he saw it twitch too.

  • I just blogged about this, too. Smile Here's what I wrote:

For the last few weeks, I've been waiting impatiently to feel our twins move. I knew that for most women it happens between weeks 16-20, and I thought I had a good chance of feeling it earlier since we're having twins. But week 16 passed uneventfully. Week 17, more of the same. But this week...well, this week is different!

Yesterday was the start of week 18, and yesterday, I felt our babies move for the very first time! At first I wasn't sure that what I was feeling was really movement, but this pregnancy has given me enough gas that I was pretty positive it was something different. And then I felt it again. A flutter, low in my belly.

I've read that for some people it feels like bubbles or a goldfish flitting around. For me, it feels like butterflies - the nervous kind you get in your stomach when you're about to make a speech in front of a large group. A nervous, fluttery feeling, but without the anxiety - just the lightly flipping sensation in my stomach.

After I realized what I was feeling, it now seems like I suddenly feel it a lot more (although I've probably actually been feeling it for longer than I knew, but simply didn't know what to feel for). It's not constant, but sometimes when I'm quiet and still, I feel the gentle fluttering.

And then, earlier today, low on my right side...a soft flick. Flick. Flickflickflick. FLICK. Now THAT was a kick for sure! There is absolutely no way it could be mistaken for anything else.

Feeling them move is the most incredible thing - it's extraordinary to actually feel new lives inside me! Mr Bibliosaur is beyond thrilled with this new development - he keeps eagerly asking me if I'm feeling them move again: "Can you feel them now?" "No, not right now." "Oh. Well how about now?" I can't wait until he can feel them kicking from the outside so he can experience this too!

  • exactly 19 weeks. It felt like popcorn (or maybe more like poprocks) popping in my belly.
  • I started wondering if what I was feeling was her around 17-18 weeks and I knew for sure, without a doubt at 21 weeks.  DH started feeling outside movement at 22 weeks.

To me, the first movement felt like butterflies in my stomach, like when you're anxious or nervous.  When I felt it I was calm so I figured that must be the baby!

    I blogged about it too:

  • I want to say that I started feeling movements right about the 18 week mark. They felt likt bubbles in my belly. I remember sitting down at home have a drink of water and feeling these bubbles in my belly.. James felt them at about 21 weeks. It's funny cause later on in the pregnancy I would lie on my side and have her kick him in the back..
  • With my first, I was 20 weeks and with my second I swear I felt her move at 13 weeks.  It felt like flutters, bubbles.
  • for me it was at 16w1d - and it's hard for me to describe but I can tell you that it felt like nothing I have ever felt before so that's how I knew!

I am willing to bet that what you felt was the baby! how exciting :)

  • How exciting!  I think I felt a swirling motion around 17 weeks, but I wasn't quite sure what it was.  Then I felt a light popping in my belly around 19 weeks, and I was finally certain it was him/her.  DH first felt the baby around 21 weeks, soon after the kicks became definite and I could sometimes see the ripples in my belly from the outside.  Now I feel it every day and it's such an awesome experience!  Party!!!

  • I felt flutters that felt kind like gas bubbles at 16 weeks and definite kicks at 17 weeks.  I actually felt them from the outside at 17 weeks.  Not sure when B could definitely feel them - he would sometimes feel her but wasn't totally sure it was her.  For the past few weeks you can totally see my belly moving when she's doing her somersaults in there (which is almost ALL the time!)  She's so strong and active that it sometimes hurts!  And she's probably just pushing 3 lbs.  Can't imagine what it's gonna be like close to term.

19 weeks for me too. Definitely flutters from within.
