Bulbs right away?

I planted my tulip, hyacyinth and daffodil bulbs the end of this September.  This is my first time with bulb plantings, should I have seen stems growing out of the ground?? We have had a pretty mild fall, I think I am zone 5?  I'm going to be doing some research but just was curious to anyone else's experience.

Re: Bulbs right away?

  • You're not supposed to see anything until spring. If you do see them coming up sooner, it's fine, but they are supposed to be dormant this time of year.
  • Phew.  That's what I was thinking for the longest time, but then somehow I got myself convinced that I should see something since our fall has been mild.  I guess my true test will be in the spring! Thanks for your help!
  • Sometimes you will see them come up in the fall if it's especially mild, hyacinths sometimes do this in both fall and spring, but  typically you shouldn't see anything until spring.. Even if you do....leave them be. Let nature take it's course and they'll bloom out in Spring.
