Poll: Favorite Christmas Cookie/Candy

I'm planning on baking Christmas cookies and candy this weekend and need some ideas for new stuff so tell me your favorites.

Re: Poll: Favorite Christmas Cookie/Candy

  • my MIL makes these awesome "chocolate covered pretzels" that are always a hit. She takes mini pretzels, spreads them out on a baking sheet, then places one little chocolate melting round (can use milk, dark or white chocolate) on each pretzel and puts them in the oven for a few minutes just to start melting the chocolate. Then she sticks 3 M&Ms (red & green for christmas) in the chocolate on each pretzel. Once theyre cooled, theyre good to go. Yum!!

  • Cookies-Hershey peanut butter kiss, snickerdoodles, spritz

Candy-DH's mom makes peanut clusters with toffee..yum!

  • I love chocolate dipped pretzels, toffee, nut brittles,  and my absolute favorite is homemade truffles.

    Cookies: Chocolate chip hands down.

  • "Million Dollar Cookies" - I'm not sure of the actual name but my grandma makes them for me every year and I told her when I was little that they tasted like a million dollars and the name stuck.  Anyways, they are chocolate cookies with a rolo candy in the middle.

Haystacks - melt butterscotch and chocolate chips together then mix in chow mein noodles.  Scoop them onto wax paper and let cool.

  • Special K Candy, which is made of Special K cereal, melted chocolate, and melted butterscotch. Maybe some other stuff, too. It's difficult to make so it's been awhile. But d@mn, it's good.

  • By far the sugar cookies that are frosted in shapes (bells, trees, snowmen, santa, stars, etc) that my aunt makes.  I swear she puts crack in those things.  I've never had a sugar cookie as good as hers!
  • Maybe it's the cookie, but probably more the tradition. David and his family, and for the years we've been together, myself... make tea cookies and decorate the heck out of them.. and eat on them through the whole holiday month almost.. they are delicious, and not to mention fun to eat when you pull out one that you decorated.
  • Savy, any chance I could get your tea cookie recipe? My mom used to buy some from someone she worked with and they were soo good, but the woman passed away, and we haven't had any for years. I've been looking for a comparable recipe since then (have to try them to see!).

  • Well, they're not strictly Christmas but my favorite cookies are Linzer tarts.  They're the sandwich cookies with raspberry jam in the middle and powdered sugar on top.  My mom makes some similar ones which are called Queens Purses.  They look like little empanadas but they're cookies filled with jam.  I like jam, I guess.
  • I love those butter cookies that come out of a cookie press.  But I'm also anti-specialty-cookware, so I will probably never make them myself. But man, I eat them hand over fist at one of my bridesmaid's parents' house.

I also really like shortbread--any kind of crisp, buttery cookie is fine by me.

  • Haystacks! My aunt makes these every Christmas and sends them out to everyone in a cute Christmas tin.
