Anyone from Reno?

How is it?  DH is interviewing for a job there.  I know nothing!

Re: Anyone from Reno?

  • Um, it's close to Tahoe?  So that's good?  I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Reno, but my friends who live there love it.  It still has a small town feel, and the neighboring areas are beautiful (mountains, trees, etc.).  I travel there often for work, so I could probably answer any specific questions you have.  Overall, I would say it's a good place to raise kids and have a family, I'm just not a huge fan of it because I find it boring AND I hate cold weather.

  • Yeah, kinda scary b/c being from Dallas, there is A LOT as far as shopping, retail, etc.  No recreation like mountains, but everything else!  Oh well, I'm sure whatever will be will be for the best!  The suburb I live in here is half the size of Reno!  Yikes!
  • I currently live in Reno. We moved here from San Diego.  It is a complete change from anywhere else in the world.  But there are some really great things.  It's really nice to be in a small town to some extent without it being so small that there isn't any shopping or anything else.   We have met some really nice people and the cost of housing is crazy cheap.  We live right inside Reno in what is considered old southwest and it's been great.  The more established area that we are in has dropped in value but not so dramatically like the newer parts of town.  Our house is literally within about 10 minutes of everywhere in Reno.  Unless it is a complete whiteout and snow storm (which doesn't happen often) you can't get stuck in a traffic jam no matter how hard you try.  There is a lot more shopping then you would even realize.

It might seem small at first but it isn't that bad.
