What to do for New Year's Eve

DH and I are trying to figure out what to do for New Year's.  We live a state away from our families and all of our friends will be out of town for New Year's Eve.  We live in a small town about an hour from Savannah but we're not really party people yet we don't want to just sit around the house alone that night.  Any low-key or romantic suggestions?  We would travel somewhere if it wasn't too pricey.

Re: What to do for New Year's Eve

  • We are laid back and like to stay at home.  We always make ourselves a dinner with appetizers only, watch movies and the NYE special.  You can get a lot of appetizers now frozen and pre-made.

What about a local B&B, or does any hotels or banquet halls do NYE events?  (buffet, dancing and drinks).

  • This year we're doing New Years Eve with my mom, but once DH and I got a hotel room in Palm Springs (you could do this anywhere) and we spent the night there with a nice dinner, champagne, and an oversized in room hot tub.

  • We spent one New Year's at a cabin in Blue Ridge, GA, and it was fantastic! We did go with friends, but I imagine it would be fun and romantic with just the 2 of you. Our cabin had a hot tub, a pool table, and every other form of entertainment you can imagine (TV, DVD, xbox, etc)
  • We stay home and rarely even stay up until 12.
  • New Years Eve will be DH & my 1 year anniversary :-) We are headed to Burlington VT for 2 nights (about 3 hrs away). They have a huge 1st night celebration. You should check into local cities with 1st night programs. Good Luck

  • We always go out for dinner and then to a movie.
  • We are going to Gatlinburg.  The aquarium has a party there and the town also has a free family celebration (although that is outside  . . . .brrr. . . .).  Check out if any hotel rooms are available in Savannah.  I think it would be fun to just get away for an evening, go out to dinner and walk by the river.
  • We like to just stay at home as well.  We go a little crazier with junk food then we normally do.  I always have been so paranoid driving around new years with all the drinkers.  I am not one, but I don't feel safe on the road with a lot of them.  Who can complain about sitting in your warm home, in sweats, with a drink and mozzarella stick?!

  • My hubby and I just moved to Alabama from Statesboro this past January.  I loved Statesboro, but there isn't much to do. There is this restaurant downtown that is a little pricey Blue Moon Cafe'. You could go there for a nice late dinner and then come home and watch the  ball drop. I have never been there, but have always wanted to go. I have heard that it is fantastic and they usually do special things on holiday nights. They usually have a set price per person on holidays. You could at least call and ask about what they have going on

  • We like to get together with friends at one of our houses and bring appetizers, drink champagne, watch the ball countdowns and play games!  NYE is also a good time to get dressed up and go to dinner at a fancy restaurant!
  • Thanks for the tips.  I think we're going to stay local or go to Savannah but nothing too crazy so that we can save money.

I've never heard of 1st night programs - what is that?

Blue Moon in the boro went out of business last year so we won't be able to go but there are other options we're considering.

    Thanks again!
