Dog Friendly Beaches?

Can anyone recommend a nice dog friendly beach? We have a few days off and would like to bring our dog to the beach to see how she likes the water but I don't want to drive hours away. TIA.

  • Smyrna Dunes and Lighthouse point is pet friendly. We have taken our dog there before, its a nice little walk along the boardwalks and at the end it reaches the shore and you can walk your dog along the water etc.
  • Fort Desoto in St Pete has a dog beach I believe. We've never been to the "dog beach", but we love Fort Desoto.

  • Fleet Peeples dog park in Winter Park has a swimming area for dogs. It's a lake and is not intended for human swimming, but it's a good place to expose your dog to water for the first time and, if you're in Orlando, closer than driving to the beaches.

    Have fun!

I second Smyrna Dunes!!! I like it there, but It's a pretty lengthy walk... so be prepared! if you have a small dog be ready to carry him/her as well! Lola made it a quarter of the way, but it was also at the end of June when it was pretty hot out! Pack a cooler since there is nothing out on the beach!  They also have an area where you can wash your dog off which is wonderful! Big Smile

  • You can also head to Cocoa and pull off when you get to the bay, where people sometimes fish or launch kayaks.  It's not the most scenic, but you can find a secluded spot without anyone else, which is nice.
  • NSB Dunes is nice, so is Lighthouse Point in Ponce Inlet which is on the other side of the inlet from NSB Dunes. I've heard great things about Ft. DeSoto, which is an offleash beach I think. NSB and Ponce over here have required leash laws, but we just use a 20 ft leash so our boy can romp in the water.
