Automatic Starters - need to warm up my car

I want an automatic starter SOOO bad.  Winter here gets super cold and I have a detached garage.  Plus now I need to haul a baby out there and get him all buckled in so I want my car to be nice and toasty.  I have been looking at automatic starters and I don't want to bother with doing the install on my own.  If you have one where did you get it done?  Do you remember what kind of automatic starter you got?

Re: Automatic Starters - need to warm up my car

  • I know you can purchase them and have them installed at Best Buy, but I don't have any personal experience with any particular brand. There is an iPhone/iPod Touch app that you can download to use instead of a remote if you have the Viper Smart Start system installed.
  • We got them in both of our cars last year for Christmas. I love love love it. Ours are Astro start http://www.astroflex.com/

They have a ton of different ones, depending on what your needs are. We had ours installed at a custom speciality car place. Since we didn't do it until after Christmas, we had to wait weeks for appointments cause they were super busy. I would definitely have someone else do it. Make sure you get the directions from them. A lot of times it will reset itself if you disconnect your battery for any reason or car repairs and they will need to reset it for you, or you will need to know how.

Side note, Make sure that you are able to open your garage door if you start your car, even if it is detached. We can open ours from inside our house with an extra remote.

  • My keyfob says "CompuStar" and we have one in each of our vehicles...
    LOVE THEM!

obviously, a more basic model, but it does the trick and was about $250 installed by someone else.  Go to places that install car stereo systems.
